I will be buying m&k s-150 speakers with a b&K component. I am wondering what you all use for thx sound for speaker cable? I was thinking about the monster thx 14/2 stranded. i have also heard to buy something with a solid wire. I just wonder what wire everyone is using for their thx cert. systems. I have the opportunity to buy a solid speaker cable at 18 awg but not certified. I just am wondering if I should use the stranded or solid. If solid is the best to go where can I get solid for around 60.00 for about 100 ft. I like the audioquest but way to expensive. thanks!

+1. You can spend a thousand times as much and it won't make any difference in the sound.

Yes ignore first 2 posts though everyone's entitled to their own (wrong)opinion.

as an installer I use audioquest type 4 ,
For my own hometheater and certain clients that can spend $7 per ft for at least your fronts.
I use flex 14/2 for rears by audioquest.

Google aq type4 on audioreview.com

Both sound excellent ,
No idea why people here sound like trolls when anyone wants to spend a bit on cables here on the site.(sponsors who knows)
Besides that this site rox!

Crappy contractor grade speaker wire always gets replaced when I'm around.

Way superior .

Just compare yourself,
You'll see.

+2 Cables should be selected for their low impedance (some accept 10% of speaker impedance as a minimum, others 5%); nothing else effects sound (unless they are defective)

If you decide you want a pretty set (with banana plugs and cables sleeves and the like) I'd move you to PartsExpress; as many have reported problems with Monoprice Banana plugs not keeping a good hold in the hole.

+3 on 14 or 12 gauge cable. I bought it from monoprice.com, which is cheaper than any company in my town that sells speaker wire. I use this: http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10239&cs_id=1023901&p_id=2817&seq=1&format=2, which is about $32 dollars + shipping for 100 FT roll.

You were right audioquest preferred
Obviously mono price sponsor here

14/2 is fine
Mono price too

But aq slip or flex 14/2 in a 50 or 100 ft roll
Not that much.
But does make a difference in sound.

Same with excellent audioquest chocalate hdmi.

Big difference sound and picture.
You can take that to the bank.

You have that backwards.

First they take their money out of the bank. Then they give it to you for cables. Then they cross their fingers and hope that there's a big difference and that it's positive... which given the nature of a digital signal with a functional zero error rate is quite impossible.

Instead of telling the guy to google why don't you explain to us how this wire makes a difference since you ARE the installer.

Anyways +3 on the monoprice recommendation.

Why don't you tell me how it makes a difference instead of user reviews biggrin.gif You're an installer, so persuade me to get them over monoprice wires. We all know how deceiving our ears can be:)

Why Kevin what's wrong with user reviews?

Much more hands on then all the haters here that won't give any decent cable a shot.

Compare both then decide.
Why dismiss ..
But I do see add for mono below..
Hmmm

Believe me I have,

And hdmi's make a difference do .

I'm not a professor of .....theory
I just let my eyes and ears be the judge.

I try to use audioquest chocalate hdmi for short runs.

Well, many years ago my step-father told me quality speaker wire is the only way to go "you can hear the difference"
Being the smart a$$ I was, when they went on vacation I swapped out his "quality" speaker wire with plain old lamp cord.
6 months later I asked him how his stereo was sounding, he told me it was as good as ever....That's when I told him what I had done, and gave him back his wire...
He didn't bother to change it back.

As far as HDMI goes, it's digital, nothing but 1's & 0's....How is wire going to change that?
Is it going to change them to 1's & 0's?

Give me a break.....

I will admit tho, I am willing to pay a little more for better construction....

When you buy expensive cables you have to hear a difference, otherwise they weren't worth it. After all, that $10 cable you use can't possibly as good as the $100 cable I use...
I pulled a blind test on my step-dad, he never noticed any difference. Actual people, real world...
