Just curious as to where you saw the Best Buy prices. I just took a look at the Pios and they came up at retail price.

On BB site here is the one for the KB-15's teh Pioneers now show $129 but you can have them price match Tiger direct for $89 but they were just on sale at BB for $89.99.

I'm just curious which is a better sounding speaker.. I saw the Klipsch retail for $250

I haven't heard those Klipsch, but the Pioneers do sound good for their respective price. What are you going to use to power your speakers? Best thing you can do is listen to both and buy whichever you prefer for your listening habits.

Amazon has the BS22's for $90, center for $70, and towers for $100 each. Sale should last a few days.

yeah i was at BB yesterday and listened to them both. To be honest i couldn't pick a clear winner it was so damn loud in the store it was really impossible. I would probably have to go back or go to another BB around me and see if they have a better set up. The KB's did seem louder but the Pioneers seemed more crisp from what i could tell.

The Klipsch has a sensitivity of 94db and the Pioneer 85db. If you like it loud, or your receiver isn't very strong. Definitely the Klipsch.

Cool thing about Best Buy is that you can buy both pairs of speakers and try them in your own home for 30 days. Then take back the loser for a full refund.

This will be the best way to judge the speakers, not by our opinions/preferences.

The Klipsch people tend to stretch their sensitivity - they will be lucky to hit around 90.5
sensitivity. However, they will require less power than the Pioneer. >> The Pioneer was
measured with a sensitivity of 86 db - they can still get loud with a modest receiver.

I will be using a older receiver. I like that it has a phono on it. these speakers will be used for listening to vinyl primarily.

Receiver is a Pioneer VSX d606S.

Also just saw on Craigslist a pair of.

Energy cb-5. $100

Polk audio 5JR $100

Polk audio Am205 $100

Any of these any good or better than the 2 I mentioned
?

Btw I did go listen to them both the other day but it was so loud in the store it was hard to tell. The klipsch did seem louder. But thought pioneers might have sounded better but like I said it was very hard to tell

Can you up your budget by another $30?

If so, get the Pioneer towers rather than the bookshelves, the bookselves only have a 4" woofer, the towers have 3 - 5-1/4"

http://www.frys.com/product/7327244?source=googleps&gclid=CPyNiYXJhLUCFW7HtAodemcAmA

I don't like any of the speakers you've listed really, they all have small drivers.

I hate the Klipssssssch sound, excessive sibilance.

The polks you listed are quite old, I've not heard them, maybe they are good, I think they are 4ohm which may present a problem for your receiver. The energy are ok, nothing special they have a 4-1/2" woofer and a 3/4" aluminum tweeter, I think that tweeter might be grating to listen to and the woofer won't give you much bass.

All of this of course is my opinion.

Yeah the towers are 129.99 each so that would be $260 for a pair..

You are correct, my bad.

Still, I don't like the options listed because they are too light on the bass.

You could get a set of these

http://www.frys.com/product/7237393?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG

They're not the greatest but they're a bit better than the stuff listed, Frys often have the Infinity towers on sale heavily discounted, if you can get those that would be a win.

You could get a pair of these

http://www.fluance.com/product/SX6_High_Definition_Two_way_Bookshelf_Loudspeakers.eng-12.html

They're decent... or keep looking on craigslist

Those are $30 cheaper at Amazon. Only $100 a pop right now while on sale. Although at $200, I'd spend another $30 and get a pair of Cambridge S30's instead.

Both nice subs although I like the Dayton 1200 more...

But if you're pairing a sub with a 10 or 12" driver to a bookshelf with a 4" driver, you may be missing out on some of the mid bass frequencies...

The Klipsch have a larger driver, but I hate their horn tweeters, maybe you like them I don't know, they sound harsh to me.

You could take a look at the POlk Monitors too, they sell them in Best Buy.

I had a listen to the Pioneers in Best Buy a couple of weeks ago and I liked the sound, I just wish they had bigger drivers, I'm not sure if they are good enough as stand alone bookshelves, they're kind of meant as rear satellites for the 5.1 system. But the towers really are quite nice....

If I was in your position I'd throw the money I was going to spend on a sub and get the pioneer towers, bass should be sufficient for a while because then you can still add a sub down the line... The Pioneer 8" sub is supposed to be pretty nice and it's super cheap too, I think it's like $90 or $80 and it will match the timbre of the speakers. The towers are $100 each on Amazon right now as I think someone else said.

I started with an older pair of the KB-15 speakers for my only two speakers many years ago. I piece by piece upgraded my system and they are now my rear surrounds. I think they are excellent speakers and I would definitely value them at over $100. I have been telling the guys at work about this deal because it is a steal on a pair of decent speakers. I would go with the Klipsch. Best Buy puts their Klipsch speakers from this set on sale each year at different times. The KB-28 towers that I now use as my fronts go on sale for half price during black friday week. I am unsure as to when the center channel goes on sale.

Well i got a pair on Pioneer FS51's for $100. Heard in store and like them i just need to add a sub.

I sent Matteos a private message asking what speakers he would go for and sent him some craigslist links. Well he took it upon himself to go look through craigslist and found me this pair. I never saw them and had been looking for several days at speakers. So a big thumbs up matteos i really appreciate you taking time out of your day to answer my many questions and Messages..

Cheers!
