Hi! New to this forum and from Norway:)
I have a question about the crossovers in the 683 speakers. I talked to one of the salesmen at my local Hifi store today and he said he had talked to an B&W representative about modding his 683 crossovers. The guy from B&W told him to use crossovers from the 800 series since they was the same except from the material quality. But he didn't have to use B&W parts, he could buy parts from e.x a component shop here in Norway and use them as long as he got the correct parts. He got himself some 800 series crossovers and the 683 sounded like a new speaker he said. So I wonder if anyone in here have done this or know what kind of parts I need? I took a quick look at a shop here in Norway and just the parts will cost me the same as a new set of 683... These parts can probably be bought for a fraction of the Norwegian price on ebay. I really want to test this but I don't wanna spend a lot of money on something that might don't be any good... Hopefully someone in here knows about this:)

Building XOs is not always a cheap undertaking. When I built upgraded XOs 11 years ago it cost me $300 just for the components. And most of those components were purchased from www.partsexpress.com which has prices much cheaper than other outlets. With buying complete XOs from the speaker companies maybe more or maybe less than building from scratch.
The XOs I built were certainly more expensive than the originals, but it was a difference of 25 years and also a more advanced XO as well.

Custom, one of a kind pair, MJC212 mains, mod PT800 center, PT800 surrounds, SUB1500s. Parasound P7, Citation 19, Parasound HCA2205A, HK AVR3600, Marantz TT, Samsung BD player, Denon DVD-A player, MacBook Pro w/ Dirac Stereo Suite.
