Okay this may seem like a marketing ploy, but I was hoping to get some independent feedback about a kickstarter project that I am involved with. I am not the designer of the product, however I hold the designer in high regard.

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/320792163/the-coleridge-design-acube-bmr-speaker-system/backers

When the product was launched we all thought it would be an instant hit with audiophiles on a budget, because for 300 dollars, you would get exceptional sound quality in a very small package. However the response hasnt been resounding, and as the days tick away, the funding goals seem less and less tangible.

Feedback thus far has been less than educated, and I was hoping to see how some real audio gurus would rate the product. Geoff has taken a tremendous amount of time in the overall design, and feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure what you are looking for with this thread, but I will bite...
First, not sure why anyone tries to show sound quality in a you tube video, since the SQ is depenant on the speaker the user is playing.
I have been intrigued with the BMR drivers, having heard pretty decent sound from the CA Minx system for such a small driver. The Minx has a 2.25 inch driver, so the BMR in these are twice the size. Would love to see freq response plot.
The enclosures are interesting, but not my cup of tea. I like wood, and while you don't get wood in any speakers, at least it looks like wood. I can see the appeal of the transparent cases to some, however.
Anyway, interesting speaker!

Set up #1: EMP e5ti, e5Ci, and SLS Q line Audio surrounds, EMP 10i10i sub
Set up #2: Def Tech SM450, CLR2002, SLS Qline surrounds and Klipsch 12wD sub
Set up #3: JBL130, JBL120C and Klipsch synergy sub

Hey Elihawk, this is exactly the type of feedback what I was looking for, educated feedback.

In regards to the video I completely agree, I have asked Geoff if he could produce a frequency response plot for all you guys in the know.

I can see how the enclosure might not be everybody's cup of tea, however Geoff chose the material because of its physical properties and the dampening qualities of the material.
What if the acrylic was less transparent and perhaps translucent, or perhaps even completely opaque.
What about coloured acrylic?
Custom grills has already been discussed, and if the product gets funded it is on the roadmap.

If I understand correctly this guy Geoff is essentially looking for investors? After hearing the CA speakers for myself I'm a firm believer in the potential of BMR's, but I'm not quite sure about funding someone elses project.

If you take yourself too seriously expect me to do the exact opposite

I will fund the project in the sense that I might buy the speakers when available. Making an investment in an electronic company, well, that better be money you can afford to lose!

Its not necessarily backing the project. Basically the pledge levels will actually get you a finished product if the project gets funded.

So for 100 dollars, you will get the passive cube(retail will be 120)
For 150 you will get the mono BMR speaker system(180 retail)
For 250 you get the aCube stereo two speaker system.

And the money does not get to Geoff until the project is funded.

My intention wasn't to get people to buy the product, just to figure out what was wrong with it.

If you want any idea on what many of us are looking for in a BMR based satellite, read through the Cambridge Audio Minx Thread. Isn't this specific speaker for desktop use only? Personally, I don't use desktop, nearfield monitors. I use the whole room. I would love to see a powered speaker with a BMR driver for Home Theater use but how popular would that be?

Yes this speaker wasn't meant to be used for a surround sound home theatre system, but an ultra compact stereo audio system. The intention was to extend the base functionality to offer such services as airplay and bluetooth playback. Following the trend of ultra portable devices, it is on the roadmap to produce a battery pack to make the system completely portable. Geoff chose the amplifier with this in mind, and estimates that the batter pack will provide 30 to 40 hours of continuous playback.

I will definitely read through the Cambridge Audio Minx Thread to get an idea of what this community is looking for in a bmr speaker.

One thing I would like to see and this applies to CA minx speaker as well, I would like to see the BMR driver in combination with a tweeter. I was impressed with how low the minx could get, especially considering it's size, but I was less impressed at the high end. Clear and detailed, but just missing abit at the high end. I know, that means adding a crossover...

My interest would be solely HT and 2 channel music (90%-10%) so this project isn't for me, but it's intriguing nonetheless.

If you take yourself too seriously expect me to do the exact opposite

Yea, I cannot say I have any interest in a portable "iPod" device! Bought a ton of those in the day!

It means it looks to be about -3 dB at around 100 Hz.

Taken from the Home Theater review in the June 2010 issue. The Min 10 is the purple trace. To me, the former driver's response curve without an enclosure looks a bit flatter.
