Ok i been big in the car audio world for a good 2years just finished my wagon build last year and im really happy with it and wanted to move on to a ht project.

I been researching and looking over ideas of how im going to build a ht room 100% FOR MOVIES nothing else.
Room dimensions 11x11 with real wood floor. ONLY thing thats going to be in the room is a couch and all the ht equipment.

Already have the sub stage accomplished so far going to run two 18inch SI or two 18inch obsidian's havent pulled the trigger on either one yet on the fence with them so far . Going to run a europower ep4000 on them with a inline voltage converter. already have a box for the 18's its a older box that i used for two 18inch sound solutions audio Xcons. 6.5cubes net after port tuned at 31hz thats per chamber double thick 1.5inchs all around its divided in the middle also. Plan was to seal the port or extend the port to get a tuning of 20hz going to test it out sealed if i like the output of it

I have plenty of bass just need some speakers to play 80hz++++ so many on the market idk where to start. i was looking into bookshelfs since i dont need any more low end extension. Also going to build my own speaker stands try to give the room some ht look and just right height for for the best sound for the listener.

The Choice's i been looking over are
HTD lvl3 Bookshelfs Lvl 3 center with level 2 surrounds, Figured surrounds dont realy need to be anything super powerful as long as they have the same blending of sound as the front and center speakers

HSU 5.0 package, looks really nice only thing i dont like is they use the same bookshelfs for surround and i think thats a little overkill for that area kind of a waste since you'll never use them that much.

Klipsch Reference 5.0 package with the double sided surrounds. I like the the higher efficiency but the woofers are just to small and i dont believe it would produce that big of a sound.

Been looking at used speakers but nothing good so far either really expensive high end stuff or cheap o crap.....but open minded for used it doesn't bother me one bit

Thats all i really seen that caught my eye for my budget and needs. Already have the cash set aside for the sub stage, and tv going for a simple good picture 42inch no 3d or smart tv just something basic.

Receiver is a old insignia IS-HC040917 6.1 from along time ago(Really crappy i know lol never been used till two weeks ago) going use it for now till i rack up some more cash for a better quality reciever. Waiting for my sundown 8's sell and my mb quart 4channel before i pull the trigger on one but 7.1 is what im going for always like the extra two channels for a upgrade in the future

Picture of the box. In process of repainting it glossy black, its just been a little too cold to paint outside lately.

Soooooo yeah alot of bass just need some sound to keep up with it.

Lot of mixed stuff going on here. It just seems like shooting ducks in a pound here, hard to decide which one to go with if you dont know what they sound like....

HTD, Hsu, Klipsch, Ascend, all would make good fronts, but your right that most of them would be overkill for surrounds. You can get a bit cheaper for surrounds. For a surround, you might try these Infinity Primus p163 bookshelf speakers, they are only 85 each, and they are very good, almost as good as any of the speakers already mentioned. They make for great surrounds, and they will have decent extension too, solid down to 70 hz. These Pioneer SP-BS21-LR are even cheaper, and are highly regarded bookshelf speakers, although I don't think they will be as powerful as the Infinitys, however in a 11x11 room, they might do fine. By the way, beastly looking sub you are building there, that ought to be killer in such a small room.

Thanks shadyj thats exactly what i was thinking. Still open to other ideas though.

I can get all htd for 777shipped with the 2013sale coupon or go with the hsu two fronts and center with i have two sony ssf-2000 sitting around tower speakers i could use as surrounds....but idk if it would blend good.

Ok im going to take klipsch out of the picture only because if i buy them im pretty much stuck with them if i dont like the sound.

Really stuck between hsu and htd i like the 30day trial thing they have going on. I always could order three hsu and three htd and decide that way. Alot of effort but im going to stick with them for a long time.

I think the Sonys would do well as surrounds. The surround channels are rarely tasked to do anything more than ambient noise or a few effects sounds here and there, it doesn't have to do the heavy lifting of dialogue and music. Remember that the Hsu speakers will give you a 30 day trial, but you do have to pay return shipping.

I got bitten by an stf2 that way. Had to pay $43 for shipping to get it and $67 to return it. $110 to find out the stf2 has no bass.

No, Mr. Bond. I expect you to die!

You seem like a pretty capable guy, are you able to build speaker cabinets? Even if not, there's still good deals out there

imo only you can answer that question truthfully. all three have different top end drivers (ascend - soft dome tweeter) ( htd - ribbon tweeter) (hsu - compressed horn tweeter) although i would take anyone of them and be greatfully happy, i've always liked the sound of soft dome tweeters for some reason at least to me it gives a more natural sound .its hard to describe .but again you or someone else might like the ribbons or horns, its all subjective to "your" ears. just my 2 cents

i'm so laid back,i'm laid out

The Hsus don't actually use compression drivers, and if I remember right they just use a horn-loaded aluminum dome tweeter. A real compression driver is a pretty heavy-duty driver.

Crutchfield has a 60 day satisfaction guarantee and free shipping. They have a few towers in cherry finish on sale and Klipsch is giving a SW110 sub or $499 towards another Klipsch sub with a qualifying (5 speakers) purchase.

Ill look into that. Really dont need a sub would just sell it. I Really do like the klipsch reference speakers just little out of my budget would love a set of 52's the 42's are just too small i would not be that happy with them after awhile

good to hear that. I was doing some reading and one person. Recommend horn speakers for ht use if your not going to have more then 5 speakers since the horn would provide a more full stage affect around you. Which is what I want.

I guess since no one is dumb enough to pay $499 for the sw110 they are gonna try to drum up some business by giving them away. $499 toward another sub might not be a bad deal though if the price is right for the 5 speakers. Maybe an sw112 for $100.

No, Mr. Bond. I expect you to die!

Ok i made a decision and purchased my speakers!! the endless nights of sleep are over!! I went with HSU speakers going to run a 6.2 setup for now purchased 4bookshelfs and Two centers. (****** reciever is 6.1) if i dont like the 6.1 ill upgrade to 7.1 with A lot BETTER receiver and purchase another center and use 3 upfront for left ,right and center and the other Four bookshelf's as surround.....but i dont think the whole upgrade for another speaker is needed room is too small to occupy that much speaker to begin with...as i think of it its not big enough for 6.2...but ill figure something out i like obnoxious volumes some times but not at distortion volumes.
