So are any of you attending Axpona in Chicago? It looks to be a good show with a lot of companies represented. Just curious if any of my fellow avs'ers are going. I am originally from chi so that's a bonus for me.

Having never attended Axpona, I'm really considering attending. It's drivable, and there's some superb exhibitors I'd enjoy checking out.

I want to check out the Legacy Aeris. A bit out of my price range but what the heck. My wife is a trooper. She will be going with me Friday, I'm flying solo Saturday. Too much to check out in one day. Lots of great palces to eat in the area too.

I'll be there one day too. Probably Saturday.

I'm not into "thumbs upping" or "liking". Don't take it personally. Just assume that I found your post helpful. Unless it wasn't.

I was going to go for two days but only went for one. I got to see most of what I set out to see. Overall, I was pretty pleased with the show. Some rooms were well laid out, others not so much. One important thing I learned is that I would have to spend a lot of money (probably north of 20k) on a pair of speakers to get something I like significantly more than I have now.

what speakers do you currently have? did you like the Legacy speakers you wanted to hear?

I spent a day there. I wish I was better prepared and/or had more time.

Most of the speakers I really liked were way more expensive than mine. The one exception were new Soundfield Audio monitors. At $1899 for a pair it's really a bargain IMHO.
Perhaps not the most visually appealing speakers but they sound phenomenal.

This image is dated. The version at the show had a super tweeter above the horn loaded planar .

Other than this I liked Selah arrays, TAD , Martin Logan Summit and Volti Audio horns. I cannot possibly afford any of these. But they do sound great.

I did like the legacys, especially the whispers. The Aeris were also very good. My favorites at the show were the Focal Utopias (the "smaller" ones about 30k.) I did not get to listen to all the speakers at the show. I have Carver alIII's, I've had them a little over a year now.

They had the Summits at the show? Dammit, I missed them. I wish I had more time. I went on Friday. Should have planned for 2 days. The Legacys were spectacular. I fell in love with the Signature SE's. Never heard Dire Straits sound so good. Seaton Sounds were situated in a really crappy room. I was disappointed. You could sense the quality of the speakers and the subs were unreal, but the room was a limiting factor. Could have been worse. The Datasat pre-pro was awesome. I wanted one, but at that price, I may need a sugar momma. wink.gif

Fun show. I hadn't been to one in 10 years.

I have to agree about the Seatons, the room did them no favors. They sounded bottom heavy This is not to disparage Seaton in any way, Mark is a great guy and very passionate about his craft. If I ever attend another show like this, I will stay at the hotel that the show is at. Getting around near O'hare is a nightmare.the big Von Schweikert room was incredible, if only I had an unlimited budget. There is one big ticket item I will probably purchase within the next year, the hifi man he6 and matching amp. I have never heard headphones that create the sense of space that they do, clarity of lows to highs to die for.

Why do you blame the room for the poor sound of the Seaton system? Why is that room any different acoustically than most other rooms on the floor?

Anyway you guys are lucky, you actually had a chance to listen to the setup. I stopped by there several times trying to catch a demo and each time there were dozens of people loudly talking talking to each other over some generic music video playing on background. .

I made it out Sunday. Only had time to see the few rooms that I HAD to see. g_bartman, you do have some great speakers. I had those, the Platinums, and Silvers for MANY years. Only reason I got back in the speaker game was because all my Carvers were going to need complete overhauls in the near future and I wanted something that wasn't so room/placement dependant.

Glad I hit the rooms I did. Had a few surprises, some good, some not so much. It definately narrowed down the list of what I'll bother to get in house to evaluate! Unfortunately it also added a few that would require the sale of quite a bit of gear to afford, if doable at all.eek.gif

On the bright side I didn't really care for any of the ultra high dollar rigs.

Seaton were not the only victims of the crappy hotel rooms. There were a few set ups that I had personally heard before. They sounded terrible in the rooms, whereas, when I heard them in better rooms they sounded great.

Wharfedale was another sweet sounding room. My wife even commented on it and she usually can't tell the difference.
