I looked in the TOS and didn't see anything about mentioning a retailer specifically... so I'm hoping this post is OK. If not I can change it to "Yellow Tag" or something smile.gif

So I have about $1,300 of Best Buy gift cards amassed from over the years to save for a home theater.

We are purchasing a new house with a basement for a theater. I have the visual side of the theater ready to go (120" screen with Epson 8350), now I'm going to try to get the audio side. I do believe I have a higher quality receiver in the Onkyo SR-806 to drive any type of sound system I can purchase. I'm willing to get items from the marketplace as well.

99% of the listening will be for movies and videogames and maybe some music once in a while.

Fronts: Polk Audio TSI300 - $209.99 x 2 = $419.98

Center: Polk Audio CSi A4 - $224.98

Surrounds: Polk Audio TSI100 (pair) - $219.98

Surround Backs: Polk Audio TSI100 (pair) - $219.98

Sub: BIC America F-12 $197.77 shipped

Total: $1,282.69

Or should I only do a 5.1 and get two more TSI300s for the surrounds? 4 floor standing and 1 center.

Thanks in advance for the help. I know it is a limiting selection, but I think with the price point I can get a pretty decent setup for sure!

Well bro I hate to tell ya this but you are losing money by limiting yourself to best buy. Your welcome to shop there but you are subjecting yourself to their huge mark up

TSi300's are sonically identical to the Polk Monitor 55t's which sell for $120.00 ea
The center for those would be the Polk Monitor 15c ($90) or 25c($150)
TSi100's are soncially identical to the Polk Monitor 35b's ($120 pair)
The Bic F12 goes for $188 shipped on Amazon

So going through Newegg and Amazon for that set-up is $758.00 you save yourself $524!!!
BTWs if you don't want to save $524 though the Matching center for the TSi300's is the Polk CS10 or CS20

Thanks for the help. It does suck, but that's what I asked all of my relatives for over the years, figured it'd be easier for them to pick up gift cards etc. Should have aimed them to Amazon and will do that in the future.

Even if I am overspending for these items, does it seem like a decent sound system for what's available in their selection around the same price point?

Well I would just use the CS10 or CS20 center instead of the CSi A4 and you'll be good.

You could sell your gift cards on Ebay

I wouldn't get front speakers that were different from my centre speaker that was different from my surround speakers. When a sound effect pans around the room, it will change as it goes from speaker to speaker.

Instead, for better consistency I would get 7 TSi100 speakers (or 3 pairs of TSi100s and a CSi A4 centre) and spend the rest of your BB budget on a couple of those Bic F-12 subwoofers.

If you're going to use subwoofer(s) to handle the low frequencies, why waste your budget on 4 large floorstanding tower speakers that go down to 35Hz? Isn't that range already covered by the subs?

Option 1: BB only
Fronts: Polk TSI200
Center: Polk CS10
Surrounds: Polk TSI100 (add another pair if you want 7.1)
Sub: BIC F12

Total for 5.1 = $915 not including shipping
Total for 7.1 = $1,148 not including shipping

Use rest of cash for speaker stands, speaker wire, cables, blurays

Option 2: 5.1 setup, BB only for Speakers
Fronts: Polk TSI200
Center: Polk CS10
Surrounds: Polk TSI100

Total = $730

Sell rest of gift cards and get SVS PB-1000

Option 3: Sell all gift cards and get whatever you want.

I recommend that whatever you chose to do, stick with bookshelf speakers. You'll get better value over Floorstanders

Sell the gift cards for like 1200 and get a MUCH better speaker setup.

Don't even think about it unless you have a Best Buy Magnolia around.

Agreed, sell the gift cards for like 100 dollars off, no one will buy a gift card without making some value, and buy elsewhere.

Sell the cards on plastic jungle. I have bought and sold gift cards thru them, and they are awesome.
