I think i settled on a KEF setup that consist of:
Q100 L/R
T301c Center
HTS200.3 surround L/R

Which is the better Sub?
SVS PB12-NSD
or
HSU VTF-3 MK4

My room size is 17x20
using a Marantz sr7005

thanks

Both subs are good, but I think the hsu is a little better.

I'd take the SVS. I think it has a better drive-unit (certainly a more expensive one), but both subs will be fine.

You should seriously consider dropping that toppled-MTM center channel and replacing it with a 3d Q100, if you listen to multichannel music. If not, it's probably fine for movies.

Thanks. I'm very sized constrained for my center. I can go 6.5-6.75 inches high at most. The majority of my music listening is from a logetic touch, Apple TV, and or Sirius. The T301 seemed like the best compromise.

BTW, I looked at the HTC 3001 Center Channel Speaker. I was told bt KEF that it was not Timbre matched to the Q100.

You can't get an extra half-inch or so?

I would suggest going phantom then, i.e. running no center at all. With Q100' right and left, any center that's not a Q100 is, simply speaking, an inferior option. And toe in the Q100's so that their axes cross ahead of the listening position.

Actually, if put Q100 on its side(for the center) on the first 1/4 to 1/2 inch ot box might be slightly covered by my LCD display. Do you think that might work?

That sounds like the best alternative, yes.

Applying the same logic, the Q200 c center might "fit' the same way(top portion of box partial covered) Is this a better option? Using a dedicated center rater than another Q100? BTW, my display is mounted on a articulating arm so i plan on pulling it out a bit so the speaker wont be too obstructed. Thx

No. A different speaker is an inferior option to the same speaker.

Thanks. Just out of curiosity , this is the best sound for both music and movies/TV? I'm still ok with the HTS2001.3 Speaker for my rears? I appreciate your advice. Now I just have to see if KEF will sell me 3 speakers. Does anyone know if they will?

might be hard to get that 3rd q100 by itself. don't have much input for you but you'd be happy with either of those subs.. with the hsu having more output

Gear list: Main setup - Kef Q900, Svs sb12-nsd subwoofer, onkyo 609 receiver, epson 8350 projector, elitescreens sable 92" screen, mac mini htpc
bedroom setup: PSB Image B5, maverick tubemagic a1 amplifier, hifimediy sabre9023 dac, ZMF Fostex T50RP modded headphones
preordered gear: Light Harmonic Geek Pulse X dac and headphone amp

I have been looking at these myself and the Q200c is designed to go with the Q100 as the center.

I'm currently running three Q100's across the front (center on it's side, 7 and 1/8" tall) and it's excellent. The front stage sound is completely seamless and the dialog is crystal clear ; )

Horizontal center speakers were originally created, or "designed", to accommodate typical home-theater space limitations, not to improve the center-channel sound. If you look on the KEF owners thread there a numerous strings about folks using three Q100's or Q300's or LS-50's LCR across the front stage. (Maybe this is slightly more common with KEF speakers because some of them are single-point-source drivers that can be laid on their side as a center.) If you post in the KEF owners thread you might find someone with an extra Q100 you can buy, or find someone who will split a pair with you.

FWIW, I'm running an SVS SP12-NSD sub with my KEFs and really enjoy it - a very accurate and detailed sound (no more blurry thumps!).

The HSU subs however also get universally great reviews - either would be a very good choice.

Happy listening ; )

So they say. Doesn't quite work that way, though. I heard that trio...and decided it was far preferable to spend more and end up with a spare/wasted Q100. (Though I guess it's not so spare/wasted, as they can be used for both side and rear surrounds.)

Thanks for all the advice. The Tech from KEF insist that for my needs the Q200c is a better option. Looks/size wise it works better since I'm fitting it in area that's pretty wide under my display. He also said if I'm unhappy with the center I can return it for a pair of Q100. I really don't like the idea of purchasing a pair of speakers and just using one. Having said that, I'm going to try to audition them prior to purchasing them.
