Okay I know this will sound childish. But me an my friend really enjoy music. And get into kicks where we are buying all sorts of audio, from vintage to building our own bookshelf speakers. It is a kind of a competition between us on the side.
Recently he purchased a pair of CM1 speakers used and they should arrive Saturday.
I am looking to one up him. Or at the very least be his equal. I have read a bunch of other posts but I am getting some conflicting info. If anyone could help that would be greatly appreciated.

Some speakers I was interested in were as follows

Focal Chorus 705v and 807v

Besides those I was looking at the studio monitors on this page.

My price range is around 1100 tops. I have no problem buying used gear either.

So if anyone can inform me. Is there anything that will sound better or at least sound as good that I should look into?

I've listened to both and enjoyed these more than the CM1.

Im sure you could offer $1100 for these. Theyll blow away those CM1s.

If you really wanted to up him, get the Dynaudio Focus 110A (active monitors) for $1500 from dedicatedaudio.com (normally $2500)

If I needed another set of speakers, I would be all over that deal!

From the list at zzsounds, I would take the Dynaudio DBM50 or Adam A5X

The Dynaudio BM5A MkII are also easily better speakers than the CM1

I may have settled on the 706v based on the price of them.
I am probably going to be powering them with a Mcintosh 2100. How do you guys think this will go.

I do like the Focal 706V and think they're great speakers for the money. With a nice dealer discount you might be able to get the 807W for the upper end of your budget and certainly the 807V, but there is nothing wrong with the 706V. All would mate well with McIntosh and I like them all better than the B&Ws. I would also take a look at the Dynaudio Excite X12.
