So I found a deal for 1 BIC America DV32CLR Center Channel Speaker and a pair of DV62 bookshelf speakers. Apparently the bookshelf have the Ed Friars crossover mod. How do I know for sure that they have this mod? Something I can see upon inspection of them? I am getting all three speakers for about $80. Good deal? (That is if they work fine) Apparently he is throwing in two random JBL surrounds as well. I honestly don't care about the surrounds though. I have some at home I would rather use. The center speaker I don't believe received the Ed Friar crossover, but I could be wrong.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I usually don't buy used speakers and have never owned BIC before

I would be replacing my Boston Acoustic CR65 and CR67 speakers. I do not have a center for this system yet. The ones I did find online were around the price of this whole set. Waste of money? Great purchase?

that's a good deal even if you didn't have the Ed Frias mods.

3 quality speakers for $80 is definitely a good deal. They would cost you about $220 brand new without the mods.

Would you say they will sound better than the speakers I already own?

edit: Is there a way to tell that the speakers were modded or not by looking at them?

I think the Boston speakers you have are much better-sounding than the ones you are considering.

IMO that would be a definite move downward in sound quality.

You should try to find a Boston CS225 speaker for the center to complete the set. Amazon had a demo unit for around $100 recently; look around

Do you recommend any other sites to buy audio gear on? I know of audiogon, ebay, craigslist, amazon, and the basic brick and mortar stores.

Would you say buy the Boston CS225 over the CRC7? I saw that in another thread they recommended the CR7 with the speakers I had, but it's pretty old...

I am going to try out these speakers and the guy said I can return them if I don't like them. Nice to test them against the BA

Where did you find the demo deal on amazon?

Usually when Amazon has a demo model, its only one. I'm sure its been sold.

Here is a new one on ebay though for $129

Thanks guys. I will keep my out for that center.

I tried out the Bic speakers. They sounded like they had a condenser on them. Not bad, but like somethign was stopping them from opening up. Is that what that whole mod is all about? People like that sound?

The BA sound WAY better! Night and day.
