A lot of the recommendations here are based on North American pricing, so it might be harder for people to come up with a best price/performance value.

Are you in the UK? If so, the Wharfedale Diamond series are considered excellent speakers. Are there any speakers you are currently considering?

Bose Acoustimass is poorly designed, and as such, is very much over-priced for what you get. If you want small speakers like that, the Cambridge Audio Minx series gets very good testimonials here on AVS and is considered a good value. You can buy the cubes separately through and then add your own sub if that fits your budget better.

There are various systems from Monitor Audio, Cambridge, and KEF that might be worth considering. Bose offers horrible sound quality at ridiculously high prices IMO.

The Monitor Audio Vector system should be in that range.

Go to the Monitor Audio website and enter your post code to find your nearby dealers.

A Cambridge Audio system consisting of S30, S50 and S20 speakers would be another good combination in that price range.
