Right now I'm leaning towards an Energy Take 5.1 system, but not completely sold on it yet. I really only have the area for a sub, center, and l/r. Can't do rears yet. I'd like suggestions on piecing together separates vs the Takes. Would also like to keep the total speaker package under $600. I like Klipsch too, just not sure what to buy. Recommendations please smile.gif

Thanks for your help.

If you have room for larger speakers I'd go with something else, especially since you only need 3.1.

You could get 2 Boston A25 bookshelf speakers and the A225C center and still have money left over for a decent subwoofer.

Now if you must have relatively small speakers like the Takes then look at the Energy V-Mini speakers which aren't a whole lot bigger but do sound better. Plus you'd have the extra 2 speakers if you ever decide to go 5.1. If the rosenut color is acceptable to you WWStereo has a special going for $349 for the 5.0 set. Use promo code MEGADEALNEWS

and add the same Bic F12 subwoofer.

I will bet you that 90% of the Energy Take 5 systems ever sold are either in the junk pile in a garage or a landfill.

People repeatedly post on here bemoaning what a poor choice they made when they bought one.

I would never recommend it to anyone.

A much better system that you can buy at a reasonable price is the Martin-Logan MLT-2 system. It has larger front speaker drivers and a much better sub and you can get it for under $400.

An even better one is the Pioneer PK-52FS system, but it uses floorstanding speakers, which might be too large for some.

I would bet you're 100% wrong!

With the Wife/Spouse factor there will always be people looking for small compact speakers like the Take 5. I know several people who are very happy with Take Classic systems and have no desire to upgrade. Not everyone is an audiophile.

There is a demand for them and there always will be.

I stopped recommending the MLT-2 to people because I'm reading many complaints about the subwoofer breaking or dying.

The Boston bookshelf/center combo looks like it will fit what I want nicely. The wife doesn't want towers, so I'm somewhat limited. The BIC sub looks good to. I don't know much about any of these. Are they good? Will I get good performance? I'm not looking for audiophile sounds here, just better sound than the TV provides. Looking for good "depth" and "balance" if that makes sense.

Thanks for the help so far.

They'll be much better than what your TV sound provides. Night and day difference.
