need purchase advice for
1: All purpose use speakers for a 5.1 setup(can add sub later if budget is used on the 5) $1k-$1.4k or less is the budget
2: it's in a small space and will be used for music, moves and computer games.
2: small size is needed, 12" deep or less, but prefer bookshelves to sats that require a sub(this is about being able to drop out the bass boom late nights without loosing a lot of the overall sound, my current setup has a decent sound for what it is but when i kill the sub at night it's all just tiny sounding)
3: no floor standing, floor stands or in-wall can be used it's either wall hung, or going on a wall mounted shelf(except for a sub of course but this too needs to not be overly large).
I am looking to replace my current computer speaker setup with real speakers.
I am ok on the AMP info what i really need is speaker advice.
The computer is the entertainment center of my house. It's where we watch "t.v." and movies, listen to music, and my primary hobby playing games.
This is in a very small space. A rectangle room(about 14x8) part of which is my wife's "office" the other part is my "office" / living room for movie watching(couch against wall behind my desk chair, about 8' wide from long wall to long wall). So maybe an 8x8 or so space for where the speakers are setup.
There is no space for anything floor standing, everything needs to be wall mountable(but not in wall this is a rental). Or at least something i could shelf mount on the wall if not a wall mountable speaker by build.
I have found most cube systems(satellites + a sub) to not really be the kind of sound i like for music most times(but i am by no means an audiophile/aficionado).
A sat. setup is also a bit on the outs for me because on weekend late nights i have to kill the sub(duplex, my floor is another's ceiling), and when u have no sub to go with the sats it's just tiny squeaky sounds left to hear. So i would like a more well rounded speaker for this particular situation.
I listen to almost all kinds of music jazz, techno, hiphop , classical, and guitarrock. There is little in musical forms my ears will refuse.
My budget is 1k-1.4k but keeping it at or under 1k would be preferred. And i tend to be a bang/buck kind of guy over focusing on the top of the line whatever.
I am currently looking at these, but am open to suggestions.Klipsch Reference 5.0 Surround Sound Speaker PackageKlipsch RB-51II Home Theater Bundle-free BIC Acoustech Pl-200
Boston Acoustics CS2310C Classic Series 5.1
(most reviews i can find on these indicate no)The Polk A3s
at 14"(deep) are a little too big really for the space I have, 10" deep(+/-2") or smaller is more a correct size fit for the space i have to use.
I would be fine with getting a nice set of bookshelves that sound good enough on their own now, and adding a sub later to fill out the sound, if it means getting a set i would use for many years to come and maybe even in a bigger space if we ever move.
I'm also fine with piecing a set together instead of buying a preconfigured set, if it means getting overall higher quality components as long as the budget is met.
And on the frills side i do tend to prefer a natural wood look to black and white boxes. Which is one reason i was drawn to the polks to start with before I found them to be a little too big for the space i have. But i've got enough restrictions already so this is one i'll live with whatever.
If you have any advice or other suggestions for this purchase I am most thankful for your time.
