Honestly...that is a neck and neck call. They at least sound somewhat similar and are same cost. Most of the time when someone asks this question they are asking something totally apples and oranges.

Which is better this 200 dollar speaker or this 2000 dollar speaker or ...klipsch and PSB which is better... Just so different you have to shake your head.

These are both more inexpensive speakers that both are horn loaded. From reading on the forums. (I have heard both these speakers ...but never A/B). I would have to give the nod to the PL76.

The Icon line killed me...I couldn't bear to listen to them. I had to go all the way to the RF-7II till I liked Klipsch (I considered buying these) but ultimately I was able to audition them enough I noticed things I was not willing to accept.

I can listen to the BIC... For movies they are ok. For music less so..but I could at least listen to songs for 30 min without wanting to grip my head from the shrill high notes.

Now...as in all things ...just my two cents. Others may tell you I am crazier than the craziest person in the world.

May want to give the HSU speakers a looksee. I think they are superior to both your choices and again..not towers but close to price and they are horn loaded as well.

From what I understand the Hsu tweeters sound more like soft dome than horn loaded.

Most horned loaded speakers have some variation of a metal tweeter...this is silk...so yes...they do have a different sound.

You guys are talking about compression drivers. Most horns use compression drivers, which is very efficient and very powerful, and a different kind of transducer than typical tweeters. Klipsch uses them (but not the model discussed above) but not BIC or Hsu. Horn-loading can still benefit ordinary tweeters though. Compression drivers do sound different than others.

So without a compression driven tweeter it sounds like the vf36 and pl76 sounds are even closer than I thought.

Perhaps. They are both using aluminum dome tweeters.
