Hello everyone. I'm slowly building a home theater. I found a great deal on a pair of Energy C-200's so I started with those. I use the C200's as my mains, C-C100 for the center and a 10inch down firing sub. I have everything paired with a Denon AVR. The final piece of the puzzle is to decide what I'm going to do with the surrounds.

The two options I'm considering: Retain the C200's for the front speakers and find some C100's or C50's to use as surrounds. Or a slightly pricier option, replace the fronts with C300 or C500 towers and use the C200's for the surrounds. My only concern is the C200's being overkill for surrounds as they are pretty large and hefty bookshelf speakers. Also how much benefit would I hear using Energy tower speakers as the mains?

Any thoughts or opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

fwiw ,you dont need same brand speakers for surrounds just the front lcr are recommended for the same timbre for smooth soundstage across the front.you pretty much could use any set of speakers for surrounds.

Thanks for the reply. I'd prefer to stick with Energy C-series for the reason of cosmetically matching the other speakers.

you may not need the same brand for surrounds but if you can, why not do it?

Jamo makes nice speakers for sure. But why sell the speakers I have and start over?

in that case the 50's would be fine. if you listen to alot of sacd or other 5.1 music might opt for the 100's then

Thanks, the 100's would be easier to wall mount vs the super heavy 200's.

I've purchased all second hand, (Ebay, local pawn store.) I'm not in any immediate hurry so waiting for a great deal on used speakers is not an issue. Price varies.
