Hello All,

My HT is located in the basement of my home. The room has no windows and has controlled lighting so that I can make it completely dark. The current entrance calls for french doors, however I am thinking of going with hidden hinges and a pocket door. I would like some advice on speaker suggestion and room layout please? The room measures 16'W x 30'L and has 9' ceilings. I would like to have platforms in this room too. Behind the sheet rock of three of the walls is concrete, the 1 remaining wall shares to the rec room. I have insulated that wall and hung dB-3 for soundproofing. I have prewired the room for a 7.2 surround. Here is a list of a few things that I would like to use:

120" projector screen
Oppo 103 blu ray
Pioneer Elite SC-68

Thanks!!

Wow. You're more prepared than most :-)

People will be asking you what your budget is for sound system - AVR (or separates), speakers and sub(s). This is just a baseline, 'cause most of the recommendations will come in over budget :-D

One additional necessary data point - approximate time spent in movies/music/gaming.

Good luck with your setup, you're going to have lots of fun!

I will use the room 65-70% movies and 20-25% sports (football&basketball), while the rest goes to gaming. I have ran an HDMI and 2 Cat5E cables to where projector is going. My tv viewing is Direct TV with HD connection. Speaker wise, I don't think that I will be using towers and traditional center for front. It was suggested to me to use 3 B&W Cinema ST8.4 LCRS for front, however that will be out of my budget.
