Just finished running my speaker wires and cat 6 and in the process of closing the walls. Looking for fronts(either bookshelf or towers) a center and a possibly a sub. Will choose my rears later.I have a Polk psw10 that I used with my monitor 50 fronts( don't have anymore) but I'm not sure if I should keep it or get a better sub. My room is approximately 25'x30 and we listen to music and movies equally. What wattage speaker would suffice? I don't need the music blasting but once Ina while might want to crank it a little. Thanks,

beau

Well, speakers can cost anywhere from a few hundred dollars to a few hundred thousand dollars, so a budget is a MUST before anyone can give advice...

Almost certainly, that sub will NOT do well in a room that size!

Set up #1: EMP e5ti, e5Ci, and EMP e5Bi surrounds, Outlaw LFM1 Plus sub, EMP 10i10i sub
Set up #2: Def Tech SM450, CLR2002, SLS Qline surrounds and Klipsch 12wD sub

You would get responses if you gave a budget and the receiver you will be using.

I asked about the receiver on the other forum here and they suggested picking speakers first.my budget for fronts and center is about $600-700

if you can find some def tech 350s or 450s and a clr2002 or clr2000 center they will sound real good for the price. i have the sm 350s and the clr2002 center and they sound great.

NewEgg has a real good deal on the sm450s, and Amazon has the clr2002 discounted.

For other options in that budget, Frys has regular discounts on the Infinity Primus and JBL ES series. However, I would pick the DefTechs over those.

Keep the Polk sub and get another one. Youre going to need 2 subs in a room that big. Your budget is unrealistic if you want any kind of quality sound in a room that big. Get towers and then save up and get a center. Then another sub. Then surrounds.

No, Mr. Bond. I expect you to die!

The size I listed is actually the kitchen, living room and dining room but it's pretty much open to one another so it's almost like one big room

The sm350/450 have recently been discountinued...so they are not available from def tech. New egg/ amazon still has a limited stock.

These are sold individually, not as pairs.

Why would small expensive audiophile bookshelf speakers be suggested for a space that large? And for a person who has such a small budget and is interested in music and movies equally? Please explain the advantages of that over some good towers.

No, Mr. Bond. I expect you to die!

This is a good deal and would do better filling that space imo

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16882290281

And will bring you in under budget. $580 If you dont like the cherry they also come in black. Or if you want to go ahead and spend the whole $700 you can get these and your 5.1 system will be complete.

I saw a post on here about how the 75&75T sounded almost exactly the same. Thanks. BTW are their any soundbars out there that come cost lose to sound/volume as say the Polks you linked to?

Many people think they sound good. They are Polks. MSRP is $500. They are discontinued.

GoldenEar Technology SuperCinema 3D Array----I heard this soundbar is sounds great. I'm going to a dealer to listen to it. Really want to avoid the aesthetics of front towers or bookshelf if I can. I thought they were really the only way to go for good sound

I personally love the way bookshelf and tower speakers look. I'd only use a soundbar if all I planned to do was watch talkshows or infomercials. Other than dialogue, you won't get much usable sound out of a soundbar.

If aesthetics is more important than the way they sound when picking out speakers what can you say. If he is willing to pay as much or more for far inferior sound then have at it. The people that make soundbars have to make a living too and they love people like that.

OP, if you don't want to actually see your speakers, have you thought of in-wall? You would get much better performance out of an in-wall system than a soundbar, without having it clutter your area or view.
