Has anyone compared the LS50 with the E41s? I know there is a significant price difference, but I've found a pair of LS50s for $1100 and I'm assuming that the LS50s (which have won numerous awards - for what that's worth) sound different enough that I'll notice the improvement.

I'm thinking of pulling the trigger on the LS50s (even though they don't come with any grilles).

Are these local? If so, try them out in your own home with your own gear first.

The discounted price is NIB but with no returns. I guess I might try KEF Direct's audition policy.

Are they local? If so and you don't get them, I'd love it if you could PM me with where they are.

That review looks good, until they started to recommend that I spend a few hundred bucks on cables to go with these speakers. Otherwise, sounds promising.

I have yet to read a speaker review where whatever is being reviewed is not comparable to speakers costing several times as much. I like KEF speakers, but the review seems more like marketing material than an honest review.

That review lost me at "One of the best sounding loudspeakers you can buy"

Either this guy/girl has heard EVERY single speaker ever made.......or this review is marketing bs.

...i'm going to go with the latter

Your various setups look good and I don't doubt that these sound great in your office. I just have a hard time when a reviewer says these speakers sound better with $1,000 speaker wire and an $800 speaker stand without specifying why the quality of the sound depends on these accessories. It almost discredits the whole review for me, but I'm sure the speakers sound great as other reviewers have given the LS50s glowing reviews. So I'm definitely interested in the community's take on these.

Agreed. No need to convince me that I'm getting a crazy deal at MSRP. KEF thinks they're worth $1,500, not $4,000. I don't need the marketing hype. Just say they sound great and have a good price point. Otherwise, you're simply just knocking the more expensive speakers b/c "they sound like speakers costing several times less."

Maybe the reviewer wasn't using the generic "you" and he knows that you ousooner2 or VicTorious1 or anyone reading his review can't afford much. So these are "one of the best sounding loudspeakers we can buy." Ha, since I doubt that's the case, your latter point is correct.

+1. The mere mention of using anything other than inexpensive generic cable indicates that the reviewer knows nothing about how sound reproduction gear works, rendering the entire review worthless. Everything he wrote could have been condensed into one sentence: "I like how these speakers sound".

There is absolutely nothing wrong with simply using expensive cables. Just as long as you don't believe they can do magic. eek.gif

Yes, they sound just like cheap cables. But some people buy them for aesthetic reasons, which is perfectly fine. biggrin.gif

that doesn't sound overpriced.
people need to make a profit.
I splurged on 10 gauge for this amp/speakers, so my $1/foot was ok with me. $20 isn't gonna kill me.

everyone is all sensitive about this guy's review? really?
either you all DO have $5000 speakers and so you're pissed off.
or you only want to spend $750 on speakers, so you're just say, no way these $1200 (real world price) speakers are THAT great.

and if you're neither of those, then go out for some fresh air.

at least the reviewer named other speakers that he is comparing them to, or else, I would agree he'd be a fraud.
He also tested them with SEVERAL sources and several amps avr etc. that sounds to me, like he's legit.
he powered them with everything from a 50wpc avr to a 225wpc amplifier.

comparing speakers to more expensive speakers, well, why not. IT IS SOUND.
you can't compare a focus to a ferrari, unless you are only worried about getting from A to B.
but with Sound, you really can have a speaker for 1500, that sounds better than a 5000 speaker, although, get ready, it's subjective. sound is subjective. this is ONE guy's review.
with that said, there are many reviews that say the same thing, KEF hit a home run, great value, great sound.

The author, I don't know him, I never heard of him... I'm just playing devil's advocate.

I will say this. Before I got the peacthree amp, I wanted to rock these KEF's so bad. So I disconnected my mains in the media room.
Put the KEF's on bar stools. Pulled them off the wall around 1.5' to 2'. this room is around 20x25 I guess.
Turned the sub off. I could NOT believe what I was hearing.
They weren't even broken in yet.

I have paradigm studio 60s in that room.
I know the room.
The sound was great and BIG.

Would I drop the money on these for a big ss room, no.
I got them for 2 channel room.
I like my big paradigms for the movie room.

With that said, I think these KEF's really do amazing for near field, they are on my desk for pete's sake.
But they will make magic happen with a little more space around them, for sure.
I can't wait to move and have a little more room in a "more cozy" office space.

cheers all

are the EMP's you're looking at around $300-400 per pair?
perhaps you can check these out, I've heard great things about them.
I don't think I've read a bad thing about them, on the forum.

Those look good, but I already have the EMPs. I would be upgrading to the LS50s.

oh ok, sorry, missed that.
I wasn't upgrading, I was setting up a new room, and originally looking at those wharf's.
but couldn't find anywhere to demo them.
demo'd the paradigm 10's and then the guy screwed over my bank account by rolling out the Kef's.
but they are sexy, sound good in my ears, and represent new technology.

good luck on your hunt!!!

No it is thier latest issue of "recommended components" The 50's were rated as A with limited LF. It is by far the cheapest speakers that I know of that have ever received an A rating.....but then again it is Stereophile:)

Ah. Thanks for that. It's not on my Kindle yet. Making Class A would be a pretty good achievement for them.
