I will try again, last time I tried the forum kept resetting to me not being logged in. I would log in, then try to post and then I was not logged in again. Round and round it went.

In response to 'newfmp3's' in post #470 requesting pics of my new High Gloss Rosewood M22V4s, I'm providing a link to the pics that I posted this morning.

The process took double the normal time of 30 days for the labour intensive work to apply a dozen hand rubbed coats of lacquer, especially because the cold winter weather was playing havoc with their paint booth.

Anyway, they sound as good as they look - quite stunning actually. They compliment my similarly finished EP-800V3s much better than the standard black vinyl ones did.

See them here in post #409892 :

VP 180 center upgrade?

Question for those who have upgraded from vp150 to VP 180, or decided to send the 180 back....
What kind of difference did it make, compared to the 150?
What demo material did you use to determine the 180 was a better fit?
I have a speaker switch (A/B) hooked up and tried the 150 on top of the 180 and also below it and very little difference( to my ears ,in my room)
Have tried BD movies, concerts,SACD's and regular cd's and difference is hard to find and when I do it is very subtle......sometimes even favoring the 150( sometimes more forward/clear) sometimes favoring 180 ( more laid back and natural) but most of the time no difference
I have this set up in front of 106" FF screen with acoustical dampening completely surrounding screen on top of audio rack using VP 180 V4 vs vp150 millennia fronts are M80 TI
Front soundstage Xovers at 60hz
Have tried with front heights and surrounds off as well ( these crossed at 80 hz when on)
I have Audyssey off for now
Just discovered the 150 plays up to 3db louder( pending which seat I measure from.....)....
Plus my ears are accustomed to the 150 (12 plus years)
Try playing only 180 for a week t,hen retest

I'm setting up my non-dedicated room for a 7.1.4 speaker layout. I only have 1 row of seating and I need some advice/opinions on where to place my side surrounds. I have a pair of M2 and a pair of QS8 . What would be better for side surrounds the M2 or QS8 ? This is a atmos setup with 4 ceiling speakers so the side surrounds will be lowered around ear height .

My speakers are :

Center - VP160
Front L/R - M22
Surround Speakers are - M2 and QS8
Sub - HSU VTF3 MK4
Atmos speakers are mounted on the ceiling .

Being an Axiom HT owner, you might want to join the Axiom Company Forum & post your technical question over there where there is a lot of Axiom expertise. Many guys there really know their stuff WRT to complex speaker placement.

I have only a pair of QS8V4s & they are on the back wall about 8 feet back from my MPL. They work really well there in my oddly shaped room largely due to their quad-polar design...

Update on vp150 millennia vs vp180 v4 centers

Well,I'm past my 30 day "free trial",and have decided to keep the VP 180 for a few reasons
When I compared the 150 to the 180 for most movie scenes/tv watching etc....it was a very close but usually favoured the 180....subtle... ( but I was usually using scenes that the 150 sounded good in ?)
So I found a few scenes that the 150 struggled with ( being a bit too forward.....), and the 180 just played them.....not really drawing any attention to itself ( more laid back and natural....) for this reason alone I'm keeping it .
also on most BD concerts the 180 sounds better, and I think after trying both centres hooked up to left front of AVR it proved the 180 is a much better speaker and as more content gets sent to center channel the 180 will increase the gap
But for now as a center channel I have to say it is a upgrade, but a subtle one.

Also would like to mention there seems to be quite a difference in sonics between the M80tis ( little more forward)and the vp180 v4( more laid back and natural).....not a timbre match to say the least
But I can't give back the 180 ( like it too much compared to the VP 150) and also luv my M80 ti's ......but I may need/ have to upgrade them to V4's ........

Ordered a pair of M100s in cherry for a 2 channel system driven by an Odyssey Khartago amplifier which I am also waiting for.

Looking forward. I'll report back.

The In-Ceiling M3 models were specifically designed for use with Atmos applications & would adhere to those standards - wide dispersion I would think but are presently not aimable.

Here is a good discussion on Axiom's Forum from several of the members that have bought & installed them. One user did not think that aimable speakers would necessarily improve his installation which is encouraging:

I want to upgrade my floor standing speakers and have been looking a Axiom M50 v4. these are at the upper end of what I want to spend and the other contender would be the Klipsch R-26F which cost less. I'm in a small apartment with the living room being about 18 ft wide and 12 ft deep. However, the TV and stereo sit in a recessed area so it is about 15 ft deep in that area and the speakers are 6 ft apart center to center. I have Warfdale Sapphire SP-87 tower speakers now, which are about 16 years old. These are very similar to the Axiom M50's in size and speakers (2 x 6.5" + 1" tweeter). Use is for both movies and music.

Does anyone here have experience with the M50's and/or Klipsch? My hearing is ok but not great due to age and I don't want to spend the money on something without noticeable benefit. I'm looking for smoother mid range and better highs but also like the ability to customize the look of the Axioms. My receiver is a Pioneer VSX-1022K at about 110W/ch and I don't plan to replace it. I would appreciate opinions of anyone who has actually heard the M50s (either v3 or v4) and anyone who has compared them with other speakers (there are not many reviews to be found). Also, does anyone know if Axiom offers any discounts for the holidays?
Thanks,
Ron

I have not personally heard the M50s although I have several other of Axioms models (M2, M3 & M22) throughout my house. The M50s are not that well known even among those who follow the Axiom model line.

Here is an in depth, recent review from a very knowledgeable individual in HTS:

I would suggest you head over to Axioms forum , great bunch of guys over there and you will find the answers your are looking for. There was a discussion about those exact speakers recently, just do a search on Axioms site. Craigsub over there should be able to fill in any blanks as he is doing some in depth reviews of a gaggle of speakers ATM. Since speakers are such a personal item its is very hard to say one way or the other how they will sound to you in your room . I had the same speakers for over 30 yrs before I bought my Axioms and the Axioms make me as happy as my original HPM 900s did. I shouldn't need another set for another 30 yrs.

QS4's won't get undressed

I just bought a pair of axiom QS4 v1 Surround Speakers on ebay. Are the grills that cover the woofers on top and bottom removable? the grills covering the tweeters come off but the woofer grills won't budge. I don't know if this is just a 1st generation thing or did the previous owner glue them on....
Axioms site doesn't offer old model product manuals, but there might not have even been one for the QS4 V1

thanks

I just checked my QS8V4s & all grills are easily removable using Axiom's nice magnetic grill fasteners. I previously had the QS4V3s & they were the same.

I believe the V1s had the previous attaching system - plastic post & socket. They may just be really stuck due to age & I wouldn't force them & just leave them as is.

You might want to pose your question at Axiom's forum at their web site...

I just put in an order for new M22's!!! I am super excited. I debated and debated between the M22s and Totem Dreamcatchers. In the end, I decided on the M22's as I am just not confident that my Denon x4000 would get the most out of the Dreamcatchers. I have been cycling through semi-budget bookshelf speakers looking for just the right pair and the best I had were the Axiom M3s. So I thought I would give the M22s a shot. I already had a VP150 that I used with my M3's for a while. Hoping they don't disappoint.

Over thanks giving i had some time to dig into my QS4 v1's more. turns out on the FIRST VERSION of the QS4's the top and bottom grills that cover the woofers are actually the cabinet itself. the top and bottom wood pieces were covered in the speaker grill cloth then attached to the cabinet. the tweeters have a conventional ball/socket type grill.

Just thought you would all like to know.

I use the M3v3s for 2CH music only & in a separate system, I have a pair of HG Rosewood M22V4s in my HT setup paired with a couple of EP800 subs (great combination).

The M3s have some 'apparent' bass built in to them & do quite nicely without a sub. Mine are on Axiom Stands in opposite corners of a large room. Those positions unfortunately exaggerated the bass response (common to all speakers that I tried there) so I plugged the ports on the rear. Muddiness completely disappeared & they sound just great in their 'ambiance' role in the big room even at fairly loud volumes.

In contrast, the M22s are highly accurate & sound best with a sub or two. Be advised that they might sound 'thin' as contrasted to the M3s but they are really detailed & unforgiving to poor recordings. Audyssey 'hears' my M22s at 40 Hz in my setup so your room may enhance their low end performance; however, a sub is really the way to go with them.

Have fun...

I know this is a specialized-type of speaker but would anyone have experience with the AxiomAir N3 WiFi Speaker? There aren't too many reviews yet.
The contender to the Axiom would be, I think, the the Yamaha NX-N500.

The AxiomAir is not available yet so no reviews are out there. I have one on order & expect it to be shipped this month.

Speaker wise, it s a pair of M3v4s driven by a powerful 75 W/CH AMP in one attractive unit. See it at Axiom's website...

Yes, I have read about it on the Axiom website, I was looking for an actual user experience. You might be the first one to do it here on this forum...
