So, being in Australia there are rather limited options in subwoofers. So please don't tell me that I should get a different subwoofer if I go with the Audioengine 5+s, I don't really have much of a choice. That being out of the way, I plan to use these for gaming, music and movies. Which of the two options would be better for this? And I wouldn't have a subwoofer with the RP8s (though they do have 8 inch woofers...), so how would the bass of those compare to a subwoofer like the Audioengine S8? Lastly, if I go with the KRK RP8s, how would I go about connecting them to my computer? I'd prefer an external DAC, if possible under $200. Thanks for any help.

I actually like the Audioengine 2 speakers better than the model 5.

I think they are excellent powered speakers; haven't found any better.

They do need a subwoofer. I use a 12" Sony subwoofer, which is limited in output but adequate for my desktop computer setup, which never gets played really loud.

Advance Audio Australia has Definitive Technology subs and KEF subs, among others.
