Any size limitation on the bookshelf speakers? For instance, I use Ascend Acoustics CBM-170 SEs in a similar kind of setup coupled with an HK 3390 and ODAC, but the 170s are very large. However, speakers with larger drivers can be a plus for producing better midbass.
Also, what kind of music do you listen to? If you like bass heavy music, a 2.1 setup might better suit your needs.
