I have a Bose lifestyle 12 system that I bought in 1997. It is on the way out. I just got a new Denon receiver and a Klipsch RC-42 center speaker. I can't drive the Bose speakers with the Denon, more specifically, the Bose Woofer. So, I'm anxious to get 4 new speakers. I'm planning on the Klipsch reference 52 series, including the subwoofer. Since I'm only going to do this once I figured I should get some input from more experienced folks. Mostly I listen to music, either SiriusXM or my own vast CD collection. I work at home and the music is on 12 or more hours a day.

And we watch a movie most nights. Our house is round, just one great room with bedroom and bath cut out of half. Frankly, the Bose even sounds good in here because the acoustics are so unusual.
So, my room is half round 30' x 15'. I don't know if any of that matters.

My question is should I get the 4 floor speakers or should I get the smaller rear speakers...will it make a difference for music listening? I'm leaning towards the 4 floor speakers and a 12" sub.

Comments?

Do you listen to a lot of multichannel (5.1) music?

Well, it wouldn't hurt to use speakers that are larger than necessary, but there must be a reason that the OP is asking.

If you listen to a lot of multichannel music, getting better and/or larger rears may be worth it. If not, as long as the rears go below 80hz, I'd spend most of my money up front and on the sub.
