How much would you recommend he spend on interconnects?

Im not sure, alot of it depends on what the op currently has. Imo its not worth spending huge money on them. If you starting with nothing, I would probably leave 500.00 in the budget for it.

EverythingI listed wasball park figure. Im sure by shopping around those A series could be had for cheaper as a package deal and Tom @ PSA might offer a little better deal on the 4 xv30's. Point is I know I could put the system I listed together for 10k and it would kick ass for the money. biggrin.gif

No more than $100 total, including speaker wire. Expensive interconnects do absolutely zero for you. Just don't use the cheapest of the cheap and you'll be fine.

Why an A series amp? Most every double blind test has shown that nobody can tell the difference between amps.

Anything more than 50 cents a foot plus five dollars each for connectors is money down the drain.

$500 for cables? That's nuts. Even in that big room reels of speaker wire aren't going to be very expensive and connectors, like banana plugs, if desired, don't cost much. HDMI cables won't cost very much. If you want someone to sell you overpriced pretty wire, then you can of course spend much more but it's a waste of money.

I agree. Whenever I see someone type "interconnects" I assume they are going to recommend expensive cables. So I wanted to see if that was the case. My "fancy" speaker cables are from monoprice with some cheap cable sleeves from ebay.

There's some pretty good impressions in the NE GTG results thread going on right now that will make a compelling argument for a JTR setup. There was some serious heavy hitters there as far as speakers go and one of the stars was the Single 8 speaker from JTR and the Captivator S2 subs.

Yeah...I've being following it and will continue to read through each progression but I doubt I'll be looking to change any equipment because of it....I just hope its stays civil and taken for what its worth a good time for all.smile.gif

Alright, I am getting the JR setup with two subs for now and Denon 4xxx. I am going to take a leap of faith on these since I can't listen to them.
If I really don't like them, I'll just return them and pay the shipping.

I have one more question. I also have a smaller room. About 18 feet in length, 12 feet in width and 12 in height with wooden floors. I already have
a Denon (AVR-2313CI) but need speakers (5.1). This one will be primarily HT. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Michael

Smart move! smile.gif

Just don't forget to do something to get the echo in your room down. You can google RT60 to learn more than you ever wanted to know about treating a room. Obviously if this is a living room you can't go all out, but a big thick rug and heavy velvet curtains are a good start.

How do you fit in a room that's only a foot tall?

So have you figured out what you're going to order from JTR? Three 228HT's as mains, four Single 8's or Slant 8's as surrounds plus a Captivator S2 would come too $9180 plus shipping.

Why not wait and see how you like the JTR's? The single 8's would be great for your 2nd HT space?

So you're going to have two HT areas? Then how about 5 of these?

I know their SHO-10 is excellent for the price but I don't really know about this speaker. If the rep of their other products is any gauge they should be an outstanding value. Their subs are very, very good too.

Jbrown15, I emailed Jeff today to place an order for what you wrote but asked him for advice on the sub and whether or not the slanted 8's or the non-slanted ones make more sense for my setup.

He might not get back to you right away, Jeff isn't always the best at fast responses via email plus he was at the NE GTG yesterday. I would just suggest giving him a call tomorrow. If you were going to mount the surrounds up higher at all I would suggest the Slant 8's. The Single 8's and Slant's have the same performance. Man you are going with the S2 sub, 228HT's as mains and S8's or Slant 8's as surrounds; that is going to be an AWESOME setup! eek.gif

some of you make me lol...I didnt spend 500.00 on my cables. I just suggested that because I/we dont know what all the op has...he could be wiring 2-3 different zones, have a blue ray player, cable box, phono player, cd player, multiple Tv's, wireless devices...etc I was figuring on the high end. excuse me for posting for ****s sake.

well, to be fair you were recommending type A amps. An amp is an amp for the most part. A, AB, D, T. They're all pretty much the same. So we thought you were suggesting he spend a lot on cables too.

yes thats correct!

folks all my intial post was an attempt to give a opinion on what I would do with 10k to purchase a home theatre setup...it was just my opinion! Instead of pushing a member on a product, I thought it made more sense to give an opinion on what I would do with the money. I thought it was a much more constructive post then arguing back n fourth over JTR and Klipsch reference.

We're all just talking. No big deal. We would all do things differently. But now that the OP has decided on JTR, let's just give him some moral support. smile.gif

I think he will like the sound.
