Hi
I have 19 X 19 room that I am setting up for dedicated theater room. this is temporary set up until I can build dedicated theater with acoustic treatment etc...

right now main purpose for the room is 80% movies, 10% tv and 10% music only

Newegg promotions are coming out this way

Polk Audio New Monitor 35B Compact Bookshelf Loudspeaker (Cherry) Pair

Polk Audio New Monitor 75T Four-Way Ported Floorstanding Loudspeaker (Cherry)

Polk Audio New Monitor 25C Two-Way Center Channel Loudspeaker (Cherry) Each

Polk Audio PSW Series PSW505 12" Powered Subwoofer Each

Pioneer VSX-1123K

all shipped for $1213

I like polks but like martin logan and def tech more when I auditioned them. It seems that they will be too expensive for temp set up.
My desire is to upgrade to Klipsch Ultra 2 when I build my final HT.

thanks for suggestions in advance

Are you going to move this into some other room when you buy your theater system, or sell it?

I wouldn't get the Polks, that's for sure. Why don't you try the HSU Research HB-1 bookshelves or a complete HSU speaker/sub value package? Sure, a little more than your Polk setup, but even if you use these somewhere else later, at least you'll have better audio and build quality.

Don't throw good money around even if it's for a temporary system, and get bang for your buck.

Listen up, studios! Just say "NO" to DNR and EE!!

I would skip the polks and start with some klipsch bookshelfs and the rw12 sub for a 2.1 starter system. Then later get center and surrounds. Also HSU Research and Bic America have horn loaded speakers that sound great for home theater.

I am likely to convert this into sort of kids educational/game room when they grow up. So I was planning to leave speakers as it is.
I have 3 yr old son, who I expect to challenge integrity of things left on floor or where he can reach (floor standing speakers) and therefore reluctant to spend big bucks right now.
When dedicated HT built, everything will be tucked inside acoustically transparent screen. thx for suggestions and I will look into it

Klipsch horn speakers can sound brittle (even their THX Ultra speakers are not what I'd consider as sounding completely true to the source-- I'd go with Triad's or JTR's or Seaton's or something like that). The budget HSU monitors are wave guided dome tweeters and not designed like Klipsch's compression drivers.

If it's ultimately for the kiddies, you could get a small, cheap Energy Take package and hang the little cubes on the wall and out of the grasp of the young ones. They aren't discerning audiophiles and you are not putting a lot into this tide-me-over setup.

When they're older they'll want to watch movies in dad's man cave anyway. smile.gif

Thanks Dan for your help. I will keep those speakers in mind for my man cave.
I got jbl 190s for now for almost free as I had newegg gift card. That way, what ever I will get in resale will go towards triad's or JTR's.
I had heard 190s and are going to be adequate for my purpose (hate mdf encolosures) for now and easy to resale on craigslist when I am done
I have not auditioned triads or JTRs before, will be looking for them in coming days
