No thread on a specific subject can be sustained and STAY on the subject for over 50 posts IMO.

The "XYZ Owner's" threads are an exception.

I would like to see all other threads automatically closed after 50 posts.

If someone wants, they can always start a new one.

Lets quick put 48 most posts into this thread so it is closed. wink.gif

But in seriousness, while it becomes a pain to read a long thread, these threads are indexed by Bing and Google and should remain open for people to post related items into, IMO. I am also going to guess that there is no way to automate the closing of threads, so it most likely cannot happen anyway.

I'll vote no. People who wish to learn about older speakers would loose a great resource.

Screw that... I have to have some way to up my post count easily and posting things off topic ...like this post...helps me feel better about myself as a human being...or an alien from a Galaxy Far Far Away...or something...

NM...I have issues.

Longer threads may wander off topic some, but they often come back. There are plenty of recommendation threads that work like that. Here's a recent one

http://www.avsforum.com/t/1467354/speaker-recommendation-new-set-up

Given that the thread is currently 193 posts, capping a thread at 50 posts and making the OP restart the thread numerous times--and making people who subscribe to help have to go resubscribe each time--will probably not help the conversation. Probably would hinder it.

If you don't want to participate in longer threads, simply don't participate. I often unsubscribe from the thread if it seems to veer off topic too long. We all have that option.

I think the only threads that should be deleted are the ones that end up in pissing contests. You know, "all amps sound the same, no they don't, yes they do."

No they don't.

Where the hell did this topic come from?
Name one forum where that has ever been proposed.
I suggest the OP start his own forum with that format call it FIDDY POST FORUM.

Personally that's not the kind of America I want to live in.

Are you sure the ads aren't geared toward your shopping habits? I didn't see any oil of olay ads. smile.gif

Yeah I'm getting a wide variety of ads on AVS, never noticed them before. Mazda, Crest, Prilosec, Kmart, Newbalance, and Oil of Olay, its one of the roll over for audio ads. But what ever keeps AVS going is find with me.
