So I just recently picked up a 11.2 pre/pro and now I am looking to find the 4 speakers I need to round things out.

I currently have Definitive Tech BP200TL mains and a C/L/R 3000 for my Center.

The amp that will be driving the new additions will either be a Rotel 1095 (200w per) or the Rotel 1075 (120w per)

Not sure where to begin here.

Am I pigeon holed into Def tech for sound matching? or can I branch out a little?

I have noticed the new Def Tech line has some decent little speaker for the front highs, something along the line of the Studio Monitor 55's.

Not looking to spend much more than about 300-500 per speaker if possible.

Any recommendation you guys can make would be great.

Thanks

Marantz AV8801 / Rotel 2x RMB-1095 / RMB-1090 / Yamaha P7000S / Velodyne SMS-1 / DTech BP2000TL / DTech C/L/R 3000 / 4x - DTech BPVX/P Surrounds / DTech SM55 Heights / DTech SM65 Wides / SVS PB13 Ultra / 2x Buttkicker LFE / PTAE-8000U / Globalcache, iRule & Insteon.

Well to be honest, after getting into the DIY side of things as of late, I can not imagine spending $300 to $500 dollars on a single Defintive Technoligy speaker, because with a small amout of effort and research, you can build something that is a world better than any Definitive Tech offering! So if it were me, I would build some Fusion-8 kits from DIY sound group. Those would sound great!

If you are set on going with Def Tech speakers, I recommend that you sell your C/L/R-3000 and buy a single SM-65 to use as tte center channel, (the SM-65 has the new 6.5" mids that sound much better than the prior generation), then purchase some Studio Monior 450's for use as heights.

I think the new Studio Monitor 55's or even the 45's would be fine for what you are looking to use them for. The previous gen models can be found on a good deal:

DIY would be a good way to go as well if you are game smile.gif

Very interesting on both ideas.

Is the Sm65 that much better than the old 3000, I know tech has advanced in the last decade, maybe it is time to rethink my center as well.

As for the DIY, which Fusion kit would you recommend? I don;t mind getting my hands dirty, could be a fun project.

Thanks
