Team,
I have become wishy washy on the components for my new home theater. First, I had a sound company create a B&W setup. Unfortunately, they did not tell me the price until AFTER several meetings: $21,000! Way out of my range. I want to stick closer to $4000 - $8000. It is important for me to have excellent quality. This is where you come in. I need your opinions on making the right choice. Here are two that I have considered, but I am not limited to, so far:

Definitive Technology Mythos STS Super Tower System

2 STS speakers - At the top of each Mythos STS speaker are two 4-1/2" midranges flanking a 1" dome tweeter in an acoustically isolated enclosure. Each midrange features Definitive's Balanced Dual Surround System (BDSS) technology. This design places a rubber surround on both the outer and inner edges of the speaker cone, which gives the woofer greater and more precise movement for exceptional clarity. The pure aluminum dome tweeter has a special ceramic coating, so you'll hear loads of sonic detail without the edginess of lesser tweeters.

Mythos 9 center channel speaker

Two Mythos gem andled drivers

Supercube 6000 subwoofer

Total cost: $5354
Focal Configuration

Chorus 726v

Chorus IC 706v

Corus CC 700

Chorus SW 700

Total cost: $4494

Components already finalized
Panasonic TC-P65ST60
Marantz sr 7007
marantz UD5007

Thanks to everyone for their contributions. I really appreciate it!

If you want to have an increible H/T set up, you could look into a JTR setup.

Could do 3 JTR 228HT's that would run you about $3300
Two Captivator S1's and that would be around $4400
Or two PSA XS-30s $2300 roughly.

$7700 and you would have to find some surrounds, but with this package, you would have an excellent H/T set up also great for music.

If your set on your package listed, I like the focal.

Neither. For home theater front stage speakers in that price range, I would be looking at JBL LSR 6332s, JTR Noesis, or Pi Fours with upgraded drivers. For surround speakers, check out the JBL 8320s. For subwoofers, I would be looking at dual Rythmik FV15HPs or dual JTR Captivators 1000s, or possible triple Hsu VTF15hs or triple PSA XS30s. A combination of any of the above should come out to around $8k or less and would be far more powerful than the Focal or Deftech setups. The Deftech and Focal subwoofers recommended to you particularly are just so sad.

I would look at the JBL Synthesis LS40 system, which retails $4700, but street prices about $3,000 or less.

The synthesis looks cool but I would get different subs.

7 of these speakers plus two PSA XS30s is still under budget. I wonder how they perform? Also, are their size constraints or looks to be considered?

I wonder how these sound compared to the 4722N which are fantastic speakers and I bet sound better! They are enormous though.

AVR-Yamaha A830
amps-5 Adcom 555 in 850 watt monoblock mode
sub amp-Sanway FP14K
LCR-Dual stacked BFM DR-250's
Surrounds- Dual stacked BFM W10's
subs-12 SI 18's ported 6hz.

One tiny detail,

I am finishing a 1900 square foot basement that will not allow for conventional floor or wall speakers. I need ceiling speakers. Please see attached layouts of the floor plan.

I would look into Triad Gold LCR mains:
http://www.triadspeakers.com/products/irglcr.html

For surrounds I would get a pair of these:
http://www.triadspeakers.com/products/icb8sat.html

For subs perhaps some dual PSA XS30's. All within budget.

ack_bk: What a coincidence! I was just looking at the Triads and liked what I saw. I plan on looking at reviews for everyone's suggestions and building from there.

Thanks!

Here's a pretty good user review on the PSA XS30's http://www.hometheatershack.com/forums/home-audio-subwoofers/64133-power-sound-audio-xs30-first-impressions.html
