I have a chance to buy a pair of Energy RC70 for $399. Is that a noticeable upgrade from my Paradigm Mini Monitor v7?

Yes!

The most obvious will be the increased amount of bass as you go from small bookshelf to tower speaker.

$399/pr for the RC-70's is a bargain if that's what you're paying. We were elated to get ours for $600/pr when Fry's had their sale back in February.

I have a subwoofer, so I don't really care about a speaker's bass performance. How about the mids and highs, and imaging?

I don't think they would be an upgrade; no...just the opposite.

IMO the Energy RC70 is not what you want to get what you are asking for. They are not the best-sounding speakers around, by a long shot, IMO.

Since you have a sub, the ones I would recommend are the Wharfedale Diamond 10.1 speakers, which are only $349 per pair.

You might find it helpful to read the Stereophile review on them. That should help you to consider whether they are your best choice.

For nice mids and highs, and the resultant image quality, I think they are some of the best for under $600.

Heck yeah that is an amazing deal.
I got a pair of RC-50s (just a step under) for $530 for the pair and would do it over again in a heartbeat. If you aren't going to buy those RC-70s for $399, let me know where I can get them biggrin.gif

For those looking into getting Energy speakers, or upgrading their current Energy setup, here are some reviews I've written that may help:http://www.tempestaudio.blogspot.com  (haven't updated in a while, but include Energy Take Classic 5.1, RC-10, CF-70, and CC-10)

The deal is only when you buy a 55'' or bigger TV (and it is in Canada).

Oh and BTW, I just pulled the trigger!!! I can't resist. Bought a LG 60'' plasma for $889 + RC-70s for $399.

That's a great deal. Congrats!

They were going for $399 each at Futureshop. So that's like getting one free speaker.
