Hi there why not have a sticky for suggested speakers for 2 channel/ surround for various budgets? Perhaps start with 2 channel/near field bookies @ say under $100 budget all the way to a full on HT setup in the "money no object" category tongue.gif Or we could have them by bookies/floor standers/subs? This sticky could be a collaborative effort from the gurus/old birds and i feel this could be really useful to existing and especially new/incoming forum members (or lurkers heh)

Not sure this is what you are looking for but here might be a start with speakers I've had much time to spend with.

I will leave out Sub woofers due to the fact I've only owned one.

Good on the budge speaker set up would be for a 5.0 setup:

Pioneer SP-FS51-LR for Left right towers speakers
Pioneer SP-C21 Center speaker
Pioneer SP-BS21-LR for rear speakers
Approximately: $450 to $500 dollars

Medium low range:

EMP tek E55Ti
EMP tek E56Ci Center Channel
EMP tek E55WI
Approximately: $1700.00

Medium High:

Salk Songtowers with RAAL
Salk Songcenter
Salk Songsurrounds at the one I'm at now I just moved in about 2 weeks ago, but in my last residence I was there for 3 years.
Approximately: $5700.00 depending on the finish you want with your speakers.

EMP tek 5.1 theater setup, Marantz SR6006, Oppo BDP-95
Salk Songtowers, Emotiva XPA-2, ERC-1.

This is a horrible hobby!!  My wallet hates me, takes up to much space, neighbors want me to move, but man my house sounds amazing!

Audio is far too personal to compile a master list. It is far better to make specific recommendations on a case by case scenario. For example of i tell you that i love treble and i want something with a very strong top end I would want people to recommend me something different than what say a basshead wants.

The first thing that came to mind when I read the OP's post was Stereophile's April and October's issues of top rated equipment. I enjoy reading the reviews, and can keep an eye on certain manufacturers new products. Maybe this might be a good idea...I'm in.

Definitely agree with a lot of what u said wink.gif What i wish is for peeps who have owner/heard a range of stuff over various budgets and roughly agree upon which stuff merit a place in a certain price point for example but i see you point

No offense. How many people on this planet can afford the kind of stuff generally reviewed in Stereophile. 1%?

Like the original Sony Play Station as a CD player @ $25.00...?

I agree with some of the others in this thread. I don't see a speaker buying guide sticky as that helpful. However, a deals thread would be where we share current excellent prices on speakers.

Your questions are answered: Speaker FAQ
HT: Energy RC-50, RC-LCR, Veritas VS Surrounds | Dual CHT SS 18.1s | Denon AVR-888 | modified Dayton SA1000 | Antimode 8033C
Desktop: CBM-170 SE | SVS SB-1000 | Audio-GD NFB-11 | HK 3390
Headphone & Portable HE-400 | K612 Pro | HP150 | DX50 | E12

Back when I first came to this forum for knowledge inevitably the first three or four responses were "did you search first?" with pretty much the same level of venom as the average bi-amp thread of opinions. This gradually died off because a) no two situations are the same; b) there's a lack of confidence when advise isn't perceived as customized to personal needs. The search police eventually gave in.

A list of recommended speakers maintained over time isn't worth the effort. Way too many factors for any given situation. Rather, what might be interesting is a series of biannual polls - best 2 channel bookshelves under $500,under 1k, best 7.1 setup under $3k, etc. Everybody wins - a basic reference starting point and our opinions recorded, absent the bickering.
