Hey guys,

Lets try this again, I had problems finding music that wouldn't get pulled from YouTube but I was able to find a local artist to let me use one of his songs for the audio demonstration.

I recently picked up the Arx A1B bookshelf speakers and wanted to post a review.

I'm powering the Arx A1B set with a Harmon Kardon HK3490 stereo receiver, 120 watts per channel, 12 gauge speaker wire with banana ends.

Pros:
Feel well built
Price point
Sound Amazing – Good highs all the way down to the lows

Cons:
Some would say the looks though I think they look fine
Planar tweeter is somewhat directional, you need a good listening position for crisp highs

Check out the video here

If you have any questions, please let me know, I'll do my best to answer any questions.

Final word: These are well worth the price tag! I'd buy them again in an instant!

Nice review and video. I, too, have these speakers for my private office. They sound great and are very affordable, imho.

How do they handle loud music? I like what I have read about these speakers so far, but I'd like to know what their dynamic range is like.

I've cranked these up pretty loud, no distortion that I can hear. Range of sound stays steady through higher volumes. The receiver Im using also isn't the best. I know some of the others on here would certainly have something better.

I think one would be hard pressed to find a better receiver for 2 channel listening for under $500 (see Audioholics review).............Sounds to me like this receiver is a good match for the A1b's, especially in a near field setting...........

I am certainly happy with the Harmon, I'm curious if they'd sound much different with something even better?

Imho, your power source is excellent. However, other things(DAC, File type, etc) might be the rate limiting factor, not the HK. This is just my $.02. Hope this helps.

I'm fairly new to some of the audio lingo, so I'm hoping to clear something up. DAC = Digital to analog converter right? Doesn't the HK have that within? It has digital coax in and optical inputs, or am I not understanding how it all fits together? As far as digital audio files, is FLAC the best?

I ripped all my CDs in AIFF (uncompressed), good for quality, compatibility, and metadata. Lossless compressed formats often have compatibility issues (running through various editing software), so I avoided all of them. The other option was wav, but I liked having artwork attached to the files.

What's the price on these speakers? I might like something like that for my zone 2 (bedroom) to use with Airplay. How would they compare with Polk TSI200 and RTI A3?

They run $300/pair from TheAudioInsider.com. I personally haven't heard either of those polks, I have some of the lower end polks for my home theater, those don't shake a stick to them but they were less price wise.
