I'd like to know what the best surround speaker to get given that we will mostly use it for karaoke / videoke (living room).

Should I buy the bipole / dipole surround? Or go with a direct radiating speaker and angle it towards the back of the listener.

FYI, the music will only come from the 5.1 system. The singer vocals will be redirected to a dedicated powered speaker. (My point is, no vocals will come out from the rear surround speakers as well as the main speakers in front).

My amp will be running at " all stereo mode" making all speakers play the same signal.

Mic will run to a mixer and out to a different powered speaker (not my HT speakers)

So to make things short:

Do I get a bipole/dipole/direct surround for my karaoke / videoke setup? (surround to be powered by my denon amplifier)

Thanks

I'd go with direct-radiating speakers aimed at the listening position.

Thanks for the reply.

Would the Polk OWM5 be a good option? Im not sure if its loud enough though....

I am partial with the OMW5 because it is white and not that obtrusive

Any other suggestions?

What other speakers are you currently running?

Mission tower speakers in front with center speakers
Svs 12" sealed subs.
Denon 2313 amp (I think that's the model)

Shure sm58 / sm7b mics
Heath & Allen Mixer
QSC powered speaker for vocals
50" TV

Nothing fancy.

System is mainly for games (PS3/Xbox/wii) or for videoke / karaoke whenever our friends visit us.

Hmmmm... you think my tower speakers / subs / QSC speaker will drown the polk owm5 ? I don't really need the rears to pound. I do want them a bit loud though to get a good ambiance from behind while singing.

No, mostly I was wondering what you had so that I would know whether or not to ask: Why don't you buy matching surrounds? smile.gif

Not that you have to. But why not a pair of, say, Mission MX-2s (1" tweeter, 6" woofer, 52Hz-20kHz +/-3dB)?

That said, if the asethetics of your surrounds matter, the OWM5s look like they'd work just fine. (Although they only extend to 80Hz @ -3dB, so the sound might be a bit thin in back vs. what's going on up front.)

Thanks for the reply.

The MX-2s are quite big and will stick out like a sore thumb. Any good alternatives to the OWM5s which is also color white, roughly the same size but uses a 5"+ woofer/mids?

Not all white (incl. grille), no. And not at a price comparable to the OWM5s. Looks like they are your best bet.

1) Does anyone know the size of the mounting hole behind the Polk OWM5 speaker?
2) Can someone recommend a good mounting kit (color white) that can support the weight of the OWM5? (7pounds). Most of what i've read in amazon can't handle 7pounds as per customer reviews (despite the product claiming that it can handle 10 pounds).
