I can get open box pair of Q700 and a Q600C center channel speaker for a total of $1250 with full manufacturer's warranty. Am I getting a good deal?

I use my system for 99% HT/1%Music. Currently I have JBL E90/EC35 combo. Will I see a big upgrade in my movie watching experience?

The prices at KEF Direct would run over $2000, so it certainly sounds like a good deal on some very good speakers.

The sound quality would be a very bid improvement IMO.

My only question would be what are you going to drive them with?

Some HT receivers may not have the kind of amplifiers needed to drive them.

You could get the same from accessories4less.com for $1,569.97. So is saving about $320 bucks worth it to you?

I don't need snobs to tell me how to think, thank you!

Warranty?

I would want the full warranty FROM THE MFR no matter what the price.

Some of these aftermarket warranties from a 3rd party aren't worth a damn because you can't get proper repairs done.

FWIW, accessories4less is an authorized dealer and include full factory warranty..

So really, the OP has to decide if open box is worth the $320 savings.

I am getting these open box speakers from electronics-expo who claim that they are authorized dealers and open box speakers come with full manufacturer's warranty. My only concern is that I might have to leave the country in a year or two, so how much could I get in resale a year or two down the line?

If the speakers work on arrival, they'll work for 15 years unless you do something negligent.

hard to estimate resale values, however on my local craigslist there is someone selling a pair of Q900's and Q600C for $1250.

Thanks a lot. I will be happy if I can get $800 a couple of years down the road. Do you think it is reasonable/possible?

How big is the area you're using these in?

My suggestion would be to look at something like the a pair of bookshelves/center and put that extra money into a sub since you're 99% HT. Have you heard the KEF q series? If you like them, see if you can find a pair of the Q300's (A4L has them for $500/pr, but I think they can be had for less than that). That should give you $300 or more to put towards a sub purchase after purchasing the bookshelves and the q600c

If you haven't heard the KEF q series, then that opens up a lot more possibilities as far as combinations to go with.

I have a 12x12 room about 10 feet high. The reason I did not go with bookshelf speakers is that with the cost of stands, it would be around $600/pair. I got lot more expensive floorstanding speakers for $200 more. Do you think I made the right decision? Or the bookshelves would have sounded better in my room. I usually watch my TV and movie at normal conversational volume (-20 dB on Marantz SR6005) or sometimes a little higher (-10 dB).
I already have a sub HSU VTF-1 MKII.

Thanks.

I can't say what would sound better in your room. Only you can decide that. Stands can be had for really cheap if you're not extremely picky about what they look like. You could also look into something like the Ascend CMT-340's, the CMT center (puts you at roughly $800 for the front 3) and then either find some decent stands for $50-100 OR see if Ascend will work with you on their stands for the CMT sets. I believe they had just sold the CMT's with free stands not too long ago...maybe they'll cut you a deal if you buy those and the center at the same time.

Spend the extra $400ish on another vtf-1 or sell your vtf-1 and pick up a solid $700-800 sub like the Outlaw lfm-1ex, svs pb12nsd, etc.

I've never hard the KEF q series so don't take this as me saying they're not worth it. I'm sure they are, but with you being 99% HT you'll be missing quite a bit of that lower end that really makes HT fun. Unless of course you're already happy with the sub and it's enough for you (in which your answer and everyone's answer should be NEVER ENOUGH SUB! lol)

Will Marantz SR6005 not be able to drive them? I rarely go over -10 dB on my receiver.
Thanks.

I'm using a Denon 4311ci to drive my Kef q900 and q600 with no problem. My family room is 14x18x9 and opens to my kitchen.

Everyone compares the speaker size of the Q700's (6 1/2' woofers) and say one should get the Q600c. Well, I have the Q200c with the Q700's and it is perfect. That logic makes no sense really. My Q200c has NO problem keeping up; it is not even an issue.
Initially, I ordered online and received the Q900's and the Q600c. First of all, I have NEVER seen such a freakishly HUGE center channel in my life. You could have put a 12' woofer in it and called it a subwoofer! It would not FIT in my TV stand (open 3 tier glass shelves).
The Q900's made my 60' inch flat screen look like a 42 inch TV. I packed them all back in the box the same day. I am talking I could have put both of my 4 year old twin girls in one speaker cabinet. Wow!
My Q700's rock and have excellent bass and the center is amazing. Good luck.
