Last week i saw hangover 3 at the largest cinema in Malta which seats over 700 people and is the only cinema in Malta to be equipped with full T.H.X approved sound.

I saw all the side and rear speakers , but for the fronts and sub, they must be behind the screen or something.

I was wondering , how big are the fronts for a cinema like this ? And what sub ?

Yes they are big and depends which speakers on how big. They use many subs and if THX approved probably rated to 22-25hz with great output at 30hz and above.

I thought so that they use more than 1 sub in such large cinema rooms. Can you show me such subwoofer rated @ 22-25hz ? Arents there home subs out there that goes below 22hz ? :O

Of course but our rooms are tiny in comparison. The theaters need loud SPL's to fill that room so they cut off the low end at around 30hz and 20hz in the best cinemas. This also stops the lower frequencies from bleeding to the next cinema which as you know still bleeds. It would be much worse with the lower stuff. Do you know which brand of surrounds they used? JBL, Klipsch, etc..

I bet Dazkyl could go into the theater where he saw the movie and ask them what speakers/subs they use.....

Then he would know for sure instead of us speculating.

I used to work at a movie theater. it was a older theater so they had big 18 and 20 inch subs behind the screen. the smaller theaters I think the projection guy told me two altec lansing 15 inch subs. I took two of them home after they threw some away when new ones came in, but never ended up doing anything with them so I gave them away. the ones I took home was just the box and a huge horn tweeter on the top and the crossover on the back. the speaker box that i took home said altec lansing. I remember some of the big subs in the larger theaters were peavey. I saw one of the subs in just the box in the projection room and it was 18 inches. when they tore the old theater down and built a new one I heard that they were using christy amps. i am not sure what speakers for the new theater though.

bill if you were closer where i used to live and wanted them I would have let you have them for free back then. A workers boyfriend put them in his truck to get them home. I tried to get one in the car later on and it wouldn't go so I never got to take it to a stereo store to have them looked at. they sat in my backyard in the carport for a long time until someone asked if he could have them for his church. I used to live in kentucky and worked for cinemark. they did look like the pics but I think a little bigger. I was a usher and cleaned the movies and tore tickets.
