I'd say the best one is the one that appeals to your hearing the most, irrespective of whether or not the president of the company shaves his legs.

Believe me, whichever co is deemed the best this week will be regarded no better than a redheaded stepchild six months from now!
Save yourself from pain and frustration and get a set of headphones and turn em up

On a serious note tho, I agree with Coytee... There is no best speaker company. Just find a company that stands behind the product they sell with a good warranty and customer service and that makes speakers you like the sound of and can afford.

Shut off your computer. Stand up. Get your car keys and go down to some audio stores and audition some speakers. In this day and age this might be a radical idea but it does give results.biggrin.gif

Yeah, but wouldn't someone have to poke both their own eyes out in order to do a double blind listening test?

I would also go with Bose. It has the word "research" beneath it, plus Dr. Bose has his Ph.D. and teaches at MIT. It has to be the best.

Ok, I'll bite. Is there a point to this exercise, or is it one of those hypothetical fantasy pick things? If there's a legitimate question buried somewhere in there it's pointless without some qualifications (budget, size, intended use).

personally I think http://www.amazon.com/Waterfall-Audio-Niagara-Standing-Loudspeakers/dp/B002BSH27I look the best and it's half a mortgage, and I'm sure just a very small step up from bose.

and the reviews are worth the read, put them in water and they will be amazing!

EMP tek 5.1 theater setup, Marantz SR6006, Oppo BDP-95
Salk Songtowers, Emotiva XPA-2, ERC-1.

This is a horrible hobby!!  My wallet hates me, takes up to much space, neighbors want me to move, but man my house sounds amazing!

I agree since the OP asked about best company rather than best brand. (I added Infinity above to the Harman line up.) No company has a greater breadth of models addressing every conceivable market segment. From under $40 to over $70,000, there's something for everyone, and all are competitive or class-leading in their segment.

Of course, some bright bulb might chime in with "Jack of all trades, master of none." So, how about this:

More Technical awards (Grammy, Emmy, Oscar, EISA, CES, etc.) than any other speaker company
More sound-related and transducer-related patents than any other speaker company
More AES publications than any other speaker company
More published research and white papers than any other speaker company
More dollars invested in pure research than any other speaker company
