Hello,

Basically, I'm looking to spend about $1,000 after taxes on a full 5.1 speaker setup and am looking for recommendations.

Some things to know:
I'm in Canada
Receiver - Yamaha RX-V773
Current speakers - Pioneer S-HS100

I've done some research and looked around but I haven't been sold on anything.

Thanks!

Are you just looking for speakers and a sub, or are you also wanting to buy the receiver with this budget?

Already have the receiver. The $1000 budget is for the speakers and sub alone.

Thanks!

One suggestion ascend acoust 170s and cmt340 center, a rw12 klipsch sub and a pair of cheaper surrounds.
Also, the Pioneer AJ speakers are always recommended as good speakers for the buck!

Set up #1: EMP e5ti, e5Ci, and EMP e5Bi surrounds, Outlaw LFM1 Plus sub, EMP 10i10i sub
Set up #2: Def Tech SM450, CLR2002, SLS Qline surrounds and Klipsch 12wD sub

+1

The 170s are awsome bookshelf speakers I don't think u can beat for the priced. And I have the 340 center and IV been more than happy. I used to run 170s as mains, I pared em with little deftech pro monitor 600 for surrounds and it actually worked very nicely.

7.3 w/ denon x4100
JTR noesis 228s LCR
Ascend acoustics cmt 340se side ss.
ascend acoustics cbm170se rear ss
Dual rythmik fv15hps/ 1 LV12r
Verticle Marty/UXL 18 powered with inuke 6kw DSP (and another Marty in the making)

Take a look at Infinity's Primus line of speakers, particularly the bookshelves, center, and floor standers.

I recently picked up a pair of 363s and a 351 center for $200 each at Amazon. I've previously used 163s in a different system. There are good technical reviews of several of these speakers in Stereophile.

Another somewhat smaller but said to be very good line of speakers is the Andrew Jones "famous designer" series from Pioneer.

For subwoofers, the BIC Acoustech PL 200, the BIC America F12, and the Polk SW-505 are highly rated low end subwoofers.

No offense but Canada really throws a wrench into things. What size is the room? Since youve already done some research try listing what is available to you.

No, Mr. Bond. I expect you to die!

My things. Canada always limits options and makes things more expensive. Not sure if acousticsounddesign.com will even deliver to Canada.

Call or email these guys and see if you can get this delivered to Canada with the PL200 for $999. It will easily outperform anything else listed here imo. and the 773 will have no problems driving it.

You might consider putting your budget into three front speaker LCR and a sub. That way you would be getting better quality speakers on the speakers that affect the sound the most.

You could use the two best speakers from your current system (probably the LR front mains) as surrounds. (Then maybe upgrade the surrounds later if you feel you need to.)
