I would take the LV12R, and probably go with the Ascend speakers.
Like I mentioned in my post from your other thread, the HSU speakers seem to have some pretty good feed back.

jbrown,
well from all the feedback i got i think i need to spend a bit more and no longer think 4" woofers will do the job for my listening space. so i started a new thread with a higher budget. any input from you on this would be great!!

Arx speakers seem to be getting some great feed back too, not the prettiest speakers around but from what I've read really well made.
Two sets of Arx A1b b-stocks would only set you back $500, plus $209 for a center channel.

Well that's too bad, even if you didn't go with B-stock you're only looking at an extra $100 to get two sets of the A1b's.

Ascend
2 pair CBM 170 SE & 1 CMT 340 SE center for $890

I've not listened to any of those myself

3 pair Cambridge Audio S30 + a sub (Probably Klipsch as they are good value)

NHT Absolute Zero Sub-sat package + 3 more absolute zeros (I'd get 5 of the same rather than a different center)

Just a couple of thoughts. You are best-off getting what you can audition and wht sounds good to you.

I own the Dana 640i and have been very pleased with them. I use them in a 2 channel set up but would imagine any of the Danas would be nice in a full surround set up. I'd definitely consider the 630i especially at the current discounted prices. I had to fight the urge to pick a pair myself.

If you make an offer they will probably take $1200 for this.

No, Mr. Bond. I expect you to die!

I assume youve upped your budget. If you consider the pl200 illegitimate you will have to spend atleast $500 to do any better.

I'd suggest narrowing it down to your top two, and then ordering one pair of both and doing an in-home demo. The return shipping on the speaker pair you don't keep would be more than worth it. Reading on this forum can only get you about 80% of the way there on speaker choice. That other 20% depends on how they sound to you in your space. smile.gif

I'll vote for the Ascends since I like mine wink.gif

They're very solid speakers, definitely not light weight hollow feeling speakers. The cherry finish is even better in person. Your word "beautiful" is exactly what I thought when I took them out of the box.

It doesn't seem that there are very many Dana owners here but I was intrigued enough by the few reviews I could find to give them a shot. I'm glad I did. smile.gif

CabCT,
how would you say the dana speakers compare in quality & price to some of the popular brands sold in store like polk, boston acoustics, klipsch, infinity stuff like?
do you really feel like you got more bang for your buck ordering from a internet direct company??

Get the Hsu hands down. I had the Ascends CBM-170SE and sent them back.

I have the Hsu playing right now in a 2.0 set up. Gonna go back and pick up the HC-1 and 2x HB1's for 5.0 Tuesday.

Its THAT GOOD for HT!!

And also, you want to spend atleast $550 on a sub for a room your size. Get atleast the Rythmic 12LR. (I somewhat found out the hard way)

I am thinking of getting a hsu vtf-3mk4 and Im in a 20 x 20 x15. (Thanks Dan Hitchman!!) and will be demoing it on Tuesday. Will let you know how it sounds in 5.1 after I demo it.

I still think you should go with something from HSU like my original recommendation. You can get a 5.1 satin black package deal consisting of 1 VTF-3 MK4 sub, 1 HC-1 MK2 centre channel and 4 HB-1 MK2 bookshelf speakers all for $1369. That's pretty awesome value/performance.

Another quick point in regards to the pricing of the HSU and one way to look at it. Each HB-1 sells for $160ea and the HC-1 sells for $250. So just the speakers would work out to roughly $890. Subtract $890 from the cost of the package of $1369 for the speakers and that means you are getting the VTF-3 sub for basically $480. Which IMO is a much better deal then a PB-1000 sub.

If you were to go with the deal then yes. The VTF-3 MK4 will stomp all over the SVS PB-1000.
