I am getting a sonly STR-DN840 free with my Sony rewards points.
Wanting to get some Standing front speakers with a center speaker. ( I have read that having the same center speaker as the front left and right is good, but wouldn’t the speaker be longer than needed? Is it just good to get a center speaker of the same brand and series?)
A self powered sub woofer.
Looking to get in wall speakers for the two surround speakers (can they be installed in a wall with insulation?) (In wall is at my wife's request)
The room is about 20X15 with the back wall completely open to a dining/kitchen area that extends about another 40 feet.
Use will be Games/Movies/Music
Budget is around 1k up to 1.5 k if it is worth it.
Additional 340se center is $298. so you'd be around $900 for 3 speakers and 2 stands leaving you $600 for your subwoofer and surrounds. You can probably get in-walls pretty cheap leaving you $450 or more for a sub.
8ohm speaker with 90db sensitivity. Pretty much any AV receiver should be able to power these speakers. I know nothing about the DN840 as I haven't owned a Sony receiver in a dozen years. since then I've owned Sherwood Newcastle, Denon, Harman Kardon, Yamaha and Onkyo and all would have power these Ascend speakers well.
I think of the lines like
monitor == vhs
rtia == dvd
lsim == blue-ray
so it depends on how details and clear you want the sound to be and how well they fit in your budget. If you can afford rtia you will not be disappointed. If you're coming from the world of home theater in a box. the monitor will be like a gateway drug. You'll see how much better things can be and realize that for a little more they could have been a lot better. So buy once and buy the RTi A line.
