Who's Tom? smile.gif Sounds fun, enjoy! Do you have some specific multichannel music or just converting 2ch with your avr?

Lol nothing special yet. I'm still pretty new to quality ht/speakers and audio. My favorite lately has been tool. I'm actually a fan of 5 channel music a lot. I listen 5 channel sometimes when no one is home and I want that uninterrupted feeling of being submerssed in the music. I'd like to start looking into music that i enjoy in surround mode as well, rather than just stereo. Any suggestions? I like most all rock ranging from rock and roll to lighter metal or heavy rock rege style music is good. Not much rap but sometimes. I'd like to find more music where instrementals are the majority of the song. But right now Nirvana, avenged sevenfold, tool, Tom petty, 5 finger death punch, sublime, some volbeat, rage against the machine ect are a few favorites.

Check out Steven Wilson and Porcupine Tree for multichannel recordings. Several releases on BluRay as well as dvd. He did the remixes for a few other bands, including Emerson Lake & Palmer and Pink Floyd. I generally find two channel playback better in stereo mode than multichannel but varies with recording. Another great disc to check out is Led Zeppelin's Celebration Day BluRay.

Another one I like is Jeff Beck's BluRay called Performing this week....Live at Ronnie Scott's.

If you're into classical music this multi-channel BluRay version of The Planets has some cool NASA photos to go with the excellent music http://www.amazon.com/Houston-Symphony-Director-Present-PLANETS/dp/B003HV0QPS/ref=pd_sxp_f_pt I'm not a huge classical fan but have been a fan of The Planets since I was a kid (the composer's nephew was our music teacher and then not too many years later went to my first Laserium show to finalize The Planets place in my music collection). I also picked up some other classical multichannel recordings and there's one of Beethovens 5th & 6th Symphonies that I like quite a bit...

One of my absolute favorite things about theese speakers is how well and realistic they produce the sound of guitar. I'd like to hear some pink Floyd and new slash on theese. Any suggestions on awsomr guitar stuuf? I'm not as intrested in things like Metallica even though I think there awesome I'm more looking.g for music where guitar is most domenent. Love neat styles. Tom morrelo is my favorite of all time style wise (although I think his personal albums suck such as unuion town and night watchmen) but I love him in rage against the machine. Hendrix is another I should start listening to more often

Enjoy your new system!

If you really want some incredible 2-channel stuff, and have FLAC capability, dive into this:

https://www.hdtracks.com/index.php?file=catalogdetail&valbum_code=HX090368080165

It's simply amazing. $5 for the entire album and the sound quality is SUPERB. No compression, either. NONE.

EDIT: Also, Brubeck's Take Five here:

https://www.hdtracks.com/index.php?file=catalogdetail&valbum_code=HX886443817623

Arcam AVR300, Panny BDT-500, Toshiba SD-9200 CD transport, Vizio XVT 55" LED/LCD (full direct-backlit w/ local dimming), Arx A5 & A3rx-c Mains, Arx A2rx-c center, HSU VTF-15h, BJC ten white w/ ultrasonically welded connectors.

Thanks for all the recommendations guys I really appreciate it. I pretty much have home theater down so I'm just steeping foot into the high quality music scene. I have found out that high quality speakers can make music I didn't care for before really open up and come to life with a new level of clarity and realisim and that's when I come to enjoy music I thought I didn't care for at one point. I realize what I have been missing. Very intrested now in exploring new music and u guys are giving great recommendations.

Also is there any romendations of high quality live show DVDs or blurays?

^^ Dude, guess what's next? You'll become a fan of classical music. Yep. Happened to me - while I was never quite a fan I wasn't exactly opposed to classical, then I got speakers that allowed me to really appreciate the genre and in between alternative, indie, rock I also have to get in my classical fix.

Growing up sucks. biggrin.gif

When you get there, let us know, I have recommendations there too.

Live shows - one must have is Concert for George blu-ray. There isn't a moment of disappointment.

Get this http://www.amazon.com/Farewell-Live-From-Melbourne-Blu-ray/dp/B00AR1G3FS/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1371869460&sr=8-2&keywords=the+eagles+blu-ray

The DVD was excellent, the Blu-ray would no doubt be better. The sound is incredible.
Plus can't wait to read your upcoming review. I was going to buy Polk RTIs, but after some research I am leaning toward the Ascends.

I'm thinking about buying the exact setup! Any more to say about the sound after they've been properly broken in?

The entire system seems to be built around quality, accuracy and clairity. They are phenomenal
at reproducing Electric and acoustic guitar in particularly IMO. They give a very live sound for music
and a theater like high quality sound for movies

They seem to be good for both movies and music alike.

The speakers also can be played pretty loud before you ever hear them running out of steam or distorting

They may not br the prettiest speaker physically but there aimed for a buget concious customer.

The speakers do not add any coloring to music so if you like colored sound theese may not be for u.
Also if u like bass heavy speakers or do not plan on running a sub theese may not be for u.

Just some quick general info!smile.gif feel free to ask any more specific questions

My 340SE center shipped today! Woohoo! It won't fit in my TV cabinet though, the speaker is slightly too tall and too deep.

Whats the point of getting CMT 340's for music? Its gonna sound the same as the 170's. Atleast upgrade to the NRT for music. RAAL would be better.

Its also a home theater, isn't it? The added bass and volume capabilities surely are of value. Otherwise, the 340SE sounds identical in your opinion? He needs to get Sierras now and not just standard version but the most expensive? Maybe you can donate to his efforts smile.gif

Should have picked up 170's all around and with the money left over go with the Emotiva seperates. 170's will handle that room fine and you got a dediacted sub.

So now we don't need NrT or Raals and the 170s are just fine? Why waste money on Emotiva?

I was considering his budget. Seperates will always sound better than a AVR. A common AVR no matter how expensive will have the power supply right nex to the processing chip which will always increase noise in which will decrease soundstage dramatically. You won't get much processing and sound through $20.00 processing chips and $10 power supply the common recievers give you.

All AVR's are good for are room eq and room correction software it coems with. Even at that, they may take much out of your speakers.

Better to spend $550.00 on GIK Acoustics and get proper room treatment to cover the first reflections.
