Hi fellows,
I have Wharfedale OBSIDIAN 600 HCP hooked up to Denon AV receiver.
Considering to upgrade my system, instead of the two front speakers from the pack want to use better Wharfedale floorstanders. Old floorstanders will be used as back speakers together with satellites, so that the system will expand to 7.1.
What speaker from Wharfedale range are similar or equal to the front Obsidians? so that I know which to avoid and do spend the money on similar class speakers. As mentioned, I want to have decent fronts (listen to music).
Could you please advise what Wharfedale speakers should I look at?
Considering my budget is 500 pounds (~700 USD max), is this idea any good at all?
Thank you in advance,

I don't have any experience with the Obsidian package, but I know the 10.6 are said to be very good speakers.

Do you plan on using subwoofers? Looking at the specs alone of the Obsidian towers doesn't give the whole story. Showing them to be 30Hz capable without giving whether this is -3db or -9db down, isn't helpful. It could be that these speakers do in fact play down to 30Hz, but at a level in which it's not very usable. Also considering the fact that built in subwoofers in tower speakers are almost never in the correct location in the room for a subwoofer, you're probably not getting very satisfying bass from them.

Now, the 10.6 are very nice speakers. Especially for the price. The midrange and highs would most likely be an improvement. The bass may or may not be, depending on how well the Obsidians perform.

Is there any way you can try the 10.6's out in your home? Doing a direct comparison would be the best way to go.

Thanx for your answer.
Yes, I use 10" sub.
I can't try Wharfedales Diamonds 10.6 at home, because I'll buy them in online shop. Thats why I'm here smile.gif) collect some advice. Listening to them in conventional AV shop isn't an option, since they will sound differently in my room. Anyway, the price for 10.6 is tempting.

Are there other options? anyone?

What online shop? Musicdirect.com? If so, they let you try them for 30 days, and return them if you don't like them.
