I found someone who will help put the wires, but I need to order the speaker wires today.

Can anyone suggest what brand or wires should I buy. I will most likely use Amazon as it will ship the fastest.

Talking to the contractor he said to get 250ft.

While im sure there is such thing as horrible speaker cable.. The monoprice stuff is great and most other generic speaker wire is just as good

Is the wire going to be run in wall or outside the walls? Does it need to be flat? How long is the longest single run? Will it be run outside? Do you care about the color?

Agreed. I just used 16AWG, 2-wire ribbed that I bought for about $0.16 per foot at the local hardware store. It was heater cord wire.

+1. Go to your nearest hardware store if you need it fast.

The wires will go inside the wall, are there separate wires for inside wall vs. running outside

I need it by Tuesday next week.

In wall wires use in wall rated wire like this:

http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10239&cs_id=1023901&p_id=2816&seq=1&format=2

Do not use this:

http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10239&cs_id=1023901&p_id=2747&seq=1&format=2

If it is going to be run in the ground or outside and not just attached to the side of the house you should use direct burial cable like this:

http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?partnumber=102-1072

There is no difference in performance except that the in wall and direct burial wire is twisted and would be less prone to act like an antenna and pick up interference (at short distance probably not a big deal).  However there is a difference to insurance agents if you have a fire and don't have wire rated to code.  If the fire is related to your AV equipment they refuse to pay the claim.  I have seen this happen personally.  An elderly man had wired 8 pairs of speakers to his very modest Sony stereo receiver without an impedance matching circuit.  His receiver caught fire and burned up there living room.  Insurance company refused to pay the claim because it wasn't the proper wire, even though the wire had nothing to do with the cause of the fire.

For not much more money use the wire that you are supposed to for the intended use.

If the wires aren't platinum with gold flaky bits in them, it's gonna sound like crap. You don't want to go to Monoprice.com. Don't do that. They try to sell you things that work great for very little money. No. Platinum or bust.

500 gigs FTW.

None. Claims of magical improvements in sound by using expensive wire are pure unadulterated hogwash.
