I have just a few questions. Do you currently have a decent soundcard? Are you interested in something like Logitech or more of a "hi-fi" setup?

Sorry, skimmed your post and missed the "under" part. No need to be snarky.

You need to stop short changing yourself and just go for the good stuff.
You will be happier in the long run!
This is my suggestion for a great 2.1 system, little above your budget though.

Really? Almost 5x the OP's budget......I doubt he's even going to think about that one if he's balking at a good 2.1 system for $150.

OP, just go to Best Buy and get a Logitech 2.1 system and call it a day.....couple under $120 and a bunch under $100.

LOL, I know it's well above his budget. Couldn't resist, it really bugs me
When people ask for help and then cop an attitude.

The OP has started several threads asking for advice then rarely replies
Or follows up on his own threads.

The promedia is a good bargain. I have a set and although they're no where near a real hifi 2.1 system, I don't think there's anything better under $300.

That's probably the best you will do. If you don't want to spend $150, then change your budget rolleyes.gif

You can try Craiglist, I often see a lot of those multimedia systems on there.

You could also go with a pair of bookshelves and a t-amp. Something like the Pioneer BS22 and Lepai 2020A+, you wouldn't have the same low end as the ProMedia system, but everything else would sound a lot better and you can add a sub later on. This setup would run you $120.

This is another good option, I would take these over the Klipsch: http://www.theaudioinsider.com/product_info.php?loudspeakers=swan-active-desktop-sound&p=swan-m10-active-desktop-loudspeaker-system%2C-white&cPath=21_24&products_id=89&osCsid=9a4821fb9c95e289b62417393e2ac2a8

The Swan woofer is slightly smaller, but you can't make that comparison as you haven't heard either one... There is a lot more to bass output than just the size of the speaker.

not only is the woofer itself smaller but the enclosure itself is also much smaller and the swan system doesnt have the same power as the klipsch. i have heard the klipsch & i know it plays loud like the logithech z-2300 im replacing.

either way the swan is sold out

Unless you hear them, you won't know for sure. Anyway, just get the Klipsch system, it meets all of your criteria.

Don't buy Bose, it is overpriced and does not sound good. For $250, you can get those bookshelves, the amp, and a sub woofer, and it will be much better than any multimedia system in your budget.

the Klipsch pro media sounds way better than the Bose in the same category. Not sure if it's the 'Companion 5' or what but I listened to all of them on the shelf in this range +/- $50 and the Klipsch sounded way better. Decent little sub and the L/R speakers have decent imaging. Great for a 'whole room' sound.

These are very well reviewed and on sale to fall within your budget: http://www.emotivapro.com/products/airmotiv-4-pair
It's a 2.0 system and probably better suited for music, if you want to watch a lot of movies and game then you probably will want a sub woofer.

Nobody here buys Bose speaker sets because they are way, way overpriced for what you get.

If you want great sound, I agree with Transmaniacon. Get a pair of Emotiva Airmotiv 4s (currently on sale). Then buy a subwoofer later on after you finish out your HT setup.

If you definitely want to get a sub now, how about the Monoprice 5" monitors and a Dayton SUB1000.

Your questions are answered: Speaker FAQ
