What's the Max output in dbs on my cmt 340se? Is the only way to have an spl meter? My room is 16x22 if I remember right. All closed except one 8 foot opening. Thanks

Per the math, 118db peaks at one meter, but since it uses a Seas soft dome tweeter on a flat baffle, no way it can do 118db. How much you lose due to distance will depend a lot on your room. In my room, I lose 6db for doubling of the distance. My guess for actual number would be around 113db from one meter. cschang may know what they can actually do.

We have run a pair cleanly (crossed at 80Hz) at 112dB peaks measured at ~11 feet distance in our heavily damped listening room. Add at least another 3dB to that number for a typical lightly treated listening room.

Wow that'd pretty good! I really need to get an split meter. IV never turned my Avr past -10 as that was plenty loud but not 112dbs loud I don't think. Sounds like it would be closer to 0 on the Avr:eek:

And how exactly do I determine what "reference" level is?

Without having an SPL meter. Run your receiver's auto room correction (Audyssey, YPAO, MCACC) If you leave all levels set where that software puts them then 0db on your master volume control is reference level. That's why its 0 and anything lower has a - number because you are below reference. However I use Audyssey then use an SPL meter to get 75db from each speaker to my MLP. For what ever reason there is quite a big difference in how Audyssey sets it and the SPL meter ( I think its like 3 or 4 db difference).
