Is it a bad thing? Does it hurt to own speakers that more audiophiles respect?

That depends on the speakers, because, you have to admit, audiophiles respect some awfully dumb things.

I have to agree with you there. It's like someone thinks something is cool and a whole truckload of people just like it for no apparent reason. Those audiophiles didn't put one penny towards my system. The only respect my speakers require is my own.

I always termed audiophile speakers as a fallacy because of how subjective speakers are.

I think you have the right idea. What matters in music and home theater is what sounds good to you, not someone else. I like my Klipsch speakers but someone else could have speakers that cost $50 a piece and be just as happy with them. I can't say my speakers are superior to their speakers in their environment.

What about the Ascend Acoustics CMT-340SE's for the LCE and 170's for the surround? These are supposed to be very detailed speakers with a very flat response with more than enough power for your room. Pair that with a HSU or Rythmik sub and you'd have one killer system.

Klipsch is a good company with good people running it. Recently toured their corporate headquarters and came away very impressed. Met the lead engineer on the THX Ultra2 system...... a great guy! Stood in their testing chamber.... pretty cool. And, overall came out of there with the feeling that they truly care about the sound and build quality of their products.

- The concert DVDs we listened to on their Paladium system left me incredibly impressed. My feelings are that even the smaller Paladium bookshelf models would make an incredible home theater system in a fairly good sized room.

- The Ultra2 system is a definite point of pride for them as well. Certainly different than the Paladium, but with similar engineering principals behind them.

All in all, the benefits of a Klipsch horn in a multi-channel system are certainly viable points for discussion.

I'm so glad that you asked this question. I was looking at these same speakers. My problem is that I can't find a good dealer in my area. Anyone know of a reputable online dealer for the Klipsch speakers?
Thanks!
