I'm looking to replace some old onkyo speakers from a htib i bought almost 10 years ago. I already have a rhythmic audio lv12r subwoofer and a denon 2313ci. My room will be pre-wired for every channel except for the center (which I can probably do myself). The wires are near the roof so the speakers are mounted near the roof. I am hopping that i can find a bracket or something to angle the speakers downward. Anyway, that means floor standing front speakers are going to be a problem and I need to go with bookshelves. I was browsing around and I came across the pioneer speaker set SP-PK52FS. However since it is only 5.1 and has a sub/floor standing speakers it won't exactly work for me. I then set out to try to piece together a set of speakers that I thought would compare. I opted for the same center channel and 3 pairs of the bookshelves for front, surround, and rear channels. is there any problem with using 3 pairs of identical speakers like this? Can you come up with better options ?

Nope, there's no problem at all.

I would check out BIC America FH6-LCR speakers at acousticsounddesign.com. The price listed on the site says $119 each but I know they give 15% discounts to AVS members and they will give you a good deal. I bet you could get 7 of those speakers for around $700 delivered to your house.

Given the speaker locations, I dont think the BIC LCR is the best option. It will be hard to angle that speaker down. The FH6 might be a better option

You could flip the speaker upside down, so the tweeter is closer to you, and then use these mounts to angle it down

Here's a pretty good review of the Wave Crest Audio HVL-1's:

Can't hurt to have more info on them, right?!

Happy hunting!

The Pioneers are remarkable for the price - the go-to budget speaker. But a couple other, slightly higher priced options might be ...

HTD level 2 series. 6 bookshelf and a center would be $730.

Cambridge Audio S30 x6, S50 center would be $760.

I think both would likely be a step up in sound quality.

In the same price range - the new Wave Crest HLV-1's are very interesting too. I haven't heard them but am likely going to audition them soon. They have a very good pedigree and I'm (irresistibly) curious wink.gif
