You could just do the Hsu Hybrid 15 7.1 package ( which includes 6 horn bookshelf 1 horn center and 1 VTF-15H sub) and add a 2nd VTF-15H sub for a 7.2 package... Or if you like smaller sealed subs you could look at the Hsu Ultimate 7.2.1 package ( which includes 6 horn bookshelf 1 horn center 2 ULS 15 subs and 1 MBM-12 MK2 Mid Bass Module).

Will these Hsu fill the room without distortion?

From what I'm gathering Towers are not required to fill a room this size so long as you have multiple subs??

The Ascend Acoustics CMT-340 SE series would likely have better dynamics for filling a room than the HSU HB-1s. You could still order the HSU VTF-15Hs from HSU to pair with them.

I won't have room for a vertical center only a horizontal (another thing that attracted me to the new Ascend center).

I heard Klipsch a long time ago and they were very high pitched - really fatiguing but that could be due to them being the cheap home theater versions that a friend had.

Would it not be more cost effective to go with an Internet only brand - obviously the only downside there is not being able to listen pre-purchase?

So to summarize:

Has to be a horizontal center
Loved the top of the line B&W and also loved the sound of The Totem Tribe V but they are wall mount.

For subs I'm seriously thinking dual HSUs

From our previous house I had some Mirage Omnisats, would it be safe to use two on the back wall or should I be opting for the same four surrounds to match the front?

Timbre match the fronts to the backs... same model range. I would still check out JTR and Triad speakers.

Listen up, studios! Just say "NO" to DNR and EE!!

Another option, get HC-1 MK2 for front LR and Center. Those are $68 cheaper than Ascend at retail price. If combined with the subs and HB-1 MK2 as surrounds, you may get a deeper discount.

Plus, according to Brian323, they are way better than the ascend, bigger soundstage, specailly if you place them on actual bookshelves. You may want to listen to his youtube video, you can hear the speakers as if you had them in front of you [tongue in cheek]

Monitors + 4 subs could fill a room better than towers + 2 subs for the same cost IMO.

For speakers (both towers & monitors), the listening distance is the key, not the SIZE of the room (filling).

For subs, the size of the room is important.

Towers are basically monitors atop woofers; some towers are actually 2 completely separate cabinets one atop the other.

The Hsu subs would be great. Their speakers are very good too, but wouldn't be that much more powerful than typical speakers, which, like I said before, I think would be insufficient for a multi rowed dedicated theater room. they would do well as surrounds in that setup though. You might look at some JTR single 8s, do you have enough clearance for one of those tipped in its side (about 10")? Those speakers are a lot more powerful than anything carried at bestbuy.

I'll take a look at the offerings from JTR tonight. I should have approx 12-15" space under the screen.

Are there any other brands combinations I should consider???

Take a look at the Jamo D600 THX Ultra line of speakers.
http://www.jamo.com/speaker-lines/thx-speakers/D600/

High output, great wall mounted speaker, uniform dispersion, great price for performance, looks good too.

Sorry I was typing that response from my phone.
I've decided on either towers or bookshelves for the fronts along with wall mounted surrounds.

Is there any other recommendation other than JTR/Klipsch etc...

Would like to pull the trigger next week...

You don't have to wall mount them. They will still work.

I read that JTRs are good speakers but I haven't heard them.

If I went ahead with JTR, for my room size which fronts should I pick-out along with surrounds?

I suggested the JTR Single 8s, because with a $5k max budget, three of those will already take a big toll. They are the cheapest out of JTR's lines. They were in this speaker comparison here, and received a lot of compliments.

Thanks, I'll read through.
I assume these would require a stand - correct?

Which surrounds would go well with these?

Going with dual subs for certain but having a very hard time trying to figure out which speakers to go with. I auditioned a few this weekend and loved the following:

Totem Tribe V
PSB Imagine Ts

Obviously I'd prefer to stick to an ID company. I feel the biggest challeneg I'm facing is having only 18" of space on each side of the screen.
