Great slim, low-profile floorstanding speakers... problem with getting bookshelves when you are on a tight budget is you'll end up spending money anyways on stands..

+1 take it from someone who have owned a bunch of those speakers like me:

Aperion Verus Grand bookshelf: never have
Aperion Verus Forte bookshelf: never have
Focal Chorus bookshelf or tower: Owned the Chorus 806V and 816V. Replaced the 806V with CMB-170 as the Ascend is far more accurate and better sounding overall. The whole Chorus line sounds a bit dry. Honestly I got the 806 just because of front ported and robotic looking for office decoration.
Paradigm Studio 20 V.3 used bookshelf: Overpriced IMO and I'd get something new but as good or better. Granted the one I owned was V2.
Ascend CBM-170: Best bookshelves at that price and below. Basically a super accurate studio monitor. But in your application you need BASS so floorstanders like the Arx A5. But you can get the CMT-340 + stands and maybe a sub.
Klipsch Ref bookshelf: never have
PSB Image bookshelf: Owned the B6, nothing special. Bass emphasized, not your type. Sold together with the 806V when I got the CBM-170.

For $750 a pair that does both music and movies you need floorstanders and there is no other alternative but the Arx A5. Heck I think the A5 suits HT better than the $2700 Sierra RAALs. I actually literally paid $2100 to have it shipped across the world and still think it's worth it. I'd recommend something else if you're looking for pure music or pure HT.

you will be hard pressed to find a better value.

Owned the 816V once, far inferior to the Arx A5.

They do sound great. Fits the OP's budget, I paid about $850 after shipping for the A5.

I would only point out that the Focal 814s are also about 850. I believe shipping from A4L is in the range of $11. Worth consideration by the OP.
