Is it possible to have a decent 5.1 setup in this room? http://imgur.com/a/fpuwH

The first pic shows my current setup with a pair of cheap Hercules XPS 2.160 PC speakers (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hercules-4780403-XPS-2-160/dp/B000BQVC00). I have a 42' TV.

Option 1 is what i am planning to try. But I'm worried if I'm wasting my money because of the placement limitations? There is a concrete wall directly beside the tv and sofa, also one behind the sofa. I can move the sofa a little bit out from the wall but not that much. Will I get enjoyable surround sound in this room with option 1? The TV is not directly in front if the sofa. When sitting in the far right corner of the sofa I am centered looking at the middle of the TV (The TV is actually bigger than in the pic).

I cannot rearrange the room other than moving the sofa out from the wall a bit. There are other things blocking.

Looks doable. I had 5.1 in a bedroom and it sounded great.. rears were cool for stuff like the tron legacy ships flying past.. but eventually I got tired of the wires and just kept a 3.1 setup. Don't really miss the rears

I have a similar setup and it works fine, just let the room correction on the avr do it's job.

Thanks! Do I need a AVR with Audyssey for room correction? I am looking at buying a Yamaha-RX-V373.

That Yamaha has room correction. I don't know anything about Yamaha but a least it has something.

Thanks.

Regarding speakers for my system, which one of these would be my best pick? Found them cheap from the same store that has the Yamaha V373. I will use this 90% for movies and 10% gaming. Would the satellite Polkaudio TL 1600 for 320€ give me a nice movie-watching experience? Or should I buy parts separately?

Some options i calculated:

Option 1, pusing my budget a bit... Would this setup be any good? Or Maybe I would be better of buying a complete kit?
Avr: Yamaha V373 | 200€
2 front: Polkaudio TSi 100 | 140€
2 rear: Polkaudio M-10 | 100€r
Center: Polkaudio CS 10 125€
Subwoofer: Polkaudio PSW110 180€

745€

Option2, no subwoofer
Avr: Yamaha V373 | 200€
2 front: Polkaudio RTi A1 | 222€ (this one has built in subwoofers, are they any good?)
2 rear: Polkaudio M-10 | 100€r
Center: Polkaudio CS 10 125€

647€

--Complete 5.1 kits--
Canton Movie 70 Negro 170€
Pioneer S-ESR2TB 185€
Pioneer S-ES3TB 210€

More expensive:

Harman Kardon HKTS 20BQ 280€
Polkaudio TL 1600 320€

The polk is about as far as i can push it.

--Bookshelf--

They also have these bookshelves. I've read that buying front, center and rear speakers separately will probably give me a better set up in the end?

Polkaudio M-10 50€ each
Polkaudio OWM3 70€ each
Polkaudio TSi 100 72€ each
Polkaudio RTi A1 111€ each (this has some built-in subwoofer, maybe it could be worth buying these and skipping a separate subwoofer?)

--Subwoofer--
The cheapest one I can affort is
Polkaudio PSW110 180€

--Center--
Magnat Monitor Supreme Center 250 50€
Polkaudio CS 10 125€

They have more expensive ones as well but my budget is a bit limited... Are these centers any good?

Hm maybe I would be better of getting a complete 5.1 kit for less money? My room is not optimal and I don't want to throw away 700€ for a setup that won't be optimal in my room. The room is quite small also so I don't need very loud speakers.

Which kit would you recommend?

Canton Movie 70 170€
Pioneer S-ESR2TB 185€
Pioneer S-ES3TB 210€
Canton Movie 130 225€

More expensive:

Harman Kardon HKTS 20BQ 280€
Harman Kardon HKTS 9 bq 320€
Polkaudio TL 1600 320€

Has anyone had any experience with the Canton movie kits?

I've read some good reviews for the Canton Movie 130 kit. I can get that kit and the Yamaha V373 for 438€! Perhaps this will be good for my first setup? I can always upgrade some components later.

Edit: Very hard decision smile.gif I am lookikng at the Polkaudio TL 1600 kit again. Will this kit work well with the Yamaha v373?

speakers are a very personal choice. I'm not a fan of polk but polk is considered by many to be very good. I own now and have owned klipsch which make reasonable surround systems so check them out too. And definitive tech would be the best of all but may be out of your price range.
