Good. Small bedroom bookshelf speakers will work great. With $450 to spend, you could get a BIC F12 or PSW505 subwoofer (whichever is cheaper) and pair it with <$250 speakers. Or if you want a cheaper sub just to help fill in the low end so you can spend a little more on speakers, the Dayton SUB 1000 or SUB 1200.
Speakers I would look into: ARX A1b, Ascend Acoustics CBM-170 SE (I have these), HSU HB-1 MK2, Cambridge Audio S30, and Wave Crest Audio HLV-1. Most of these are Internet direct vendors (except the Cambridge) that are very good values.
