Hi,
I am new to speakers and looking for home theatre system for my family area. I initially walked into my local Costco and got the bose bundle for $1299.99 but my friends forced me to return it. I was told that I could get better ones for lesser price.
They suggested
1. Mirage -http://www.amazon.com/Mirage-MX-Channel-Miniature-High-Performance/dp/B004MEWZL2
2. Energy RC-Micro 5.1

I am looking for small speakers which will look good on the wall and this is the reason I was going for bose. I liked the mirage because it is also small in size but I cant find it anywhere in store to take a look.

Please help me make the right choice. My budget is $1000 including the receiver.

Thank you.

Best Buy Magnolia stores used to carry Mirage but I don't think they do anymore. I have no idea where else you can see them in a store. But they would definitely be a better buy than the Bose system...and a lot less expensive.

I have some RC Micro speakers, definitely better than the Bose, especially for the price. I'd suggest getting the 5.0 pack and then adding the SVS compact subwoofer which will be a far better sub than the one that comes with the 5.1 RC Micro system.
http://www.amazon.com/Energy-RC-Micro-Pack-Channel-Theater/dp/B006J0NZ6Q

Many people recommend Cambridge Audio Minx speakers.
http://www.amazon.com/Cambridge-Audio-Cinema-System-Gloss/dp/B0099SWX6S/ref=pd_sim_sbs_e_2

If you can go with speakers larger than the cube satellites the NHT SuperZero is a steal at $60 each.
http://www.nhthifi.com/Bookshelf-speaker-SuperZero-2-0

Then add the SVS SB1000 compact subwoofer and you'd have an awesome setup for $800.
http://www.svsound.com/subwoofers/sealed-box/sb-1000#.Ug_s9JLVB8E

Oh, I guess you need a receiver too.

Do you live near a Fry's electronics? If so they put the Denon E300 receiver on sale for $199 about every 3 weeks. It normally goes for $349.

Thank you all for the suggestions. I am leaning towards RC micro. Not sure if I should get the SB1000 sub for $500

Which receiver should I pick? -

bestbuy has the following open box -
Pioneer VSX42 - $249.99
Denon avr2113ci - 299.98

OR

Denon 1613 - http://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/DENAVR1613/DENON-AVR-1613-5.1ch-Networking-Receiver-w/AirPlay-3D-ready/1.html $214.99

Denon 1713 - http://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/DENAVR1713/DENON-AVR-1713-5.1ch-Networking-Receiver-w/AirPlay-3D-Ready/1.html $269.99

Denon 1913 - http://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/DENAVR1913/DENON-AVR-1913-7.1ch-Home-Theater-Receiver-w/AirPlay-3D-ready/1.html $299.99

The 1713 would be great for you if you got a SB1000 subwoofer.

I have that receiver, the MultEQ XT audessy equalizes the sub. I also have that subwoofer, it is amazing. You may need to play with eq to get it to sound right but it is the cleanest sounding sub out there. If you need more output (I doubt you will with the micro's) you can get the PB1000 for the same price.

Good luck!

The 2113 is $299 open box and the 1713 is $269 as a refurb.

Get the 2113 because you get a 3 year warranty vs 1 year on the 1713.

By the way if you click on that link from AC4less the 1713 is sold out.

There is absolutely no reason to get the 1913 when the 2113 is the same price and with a longer warranty. plus you have to pay shipping on the 1913.

The 1713 doesn't have XT32. It has Audyssey MultEQ XT, not XT32. You have to purchase the 4311, x4000 or 4520 to get XT32.

ok. I am ready to order. Prices have gone down. I have these two at bestbuy -
AVR1713 - 199.86 ( Clearance).
AVR2113CI - 265.99 (Open Box)

Which one should I get?
Also, for energy take speakers, I saw them on best buy website but they only have energy take classic and not energy take micro.
Is there a big difference between them? I wanted to get it from bestbuy for easy return if needed.

I still have to decide if I should get SB1000.

Thank you all for your help.

I would say the 1713 would be a great receiver for that price. I have one myself. I have Cambridge S30's attached and can move my SB 1000 back when i get new subs for the living room.

Yes, you should experience the PB1000 or the SB1000 no matter what you do biggrin.gif

Get the full sized, I've heard the micro's are not nearly as competitive in sound quality.

SB-1000 could be a good choice for a small room/bedroom or where you have to have a sub that small. It will have a slightly better sound than the PB-1000, although both are good choices for sound quality for their price. PB-1000 will have a little more impact on the very low end (more extension) that is good for movie watching, and it will have a good bit more output. So the PB-1000 will do better in larger rooms or at higher volumes where the SB-1000 might not be able to keep up.

Thank you all. I have placed pick-up order for 2113 and will get 5.0 energy micro and SB-1000
One last question. If I decide to expand this to 7.1, what are good choices for the remaining two speakers?

oops.. I just realized after placing the order that the remote and manual is missing. Is it a big deal? Should I cancel the order?

you can download the manual from the Denon website. The remote is pretty important to have, so is the Audyssey calibration microphone.

Looks like I will have to cancel the order. I got all excited to see $265 and did not read carefully.

Should I instead get 1713 for $199 on clearance?

Looks like BB does not have remote for any of their denon's. They have 1713 for $155 and 2113CI for $235. No accessories. Just the receiver.
They also have 2113CI on clearance for $349.99

Should I go for 2113CI for $349.99 or can I get it cheaper elsewhere?

Thank you.

That's the lowest price I've seen for a 2113. Go for it.

That's a good price, and a very good receiver smile.gif

If you get the version without the accessories, while you can always replace the remote with a unified one, you will need the Audyssey mic. Not sure how hard that is to get.

I already got the 1713 for $155 and 2113CI for $235. Both without accessories. I got them because I did not want to loose the deal incase I can get the remote and mic. I can always return them. I could not find the remote anywhere. looked on ebay too.
2113CI is clearance for $349 and so I assume it will be sealed box.

You might ask in this Denon XX13 model thread: http://www.avsforum.com/t/1409431/the-official-denon-avr-xx13-model-owners-thread-faq

Someone there may know for sure what mic to get and where to buy it. smile.gif

I understand that there may be a few different versions of the mic. The wrong one will throw off the entire calibration process.

Marantz and Denon use the same microphone for all their models. Hell, that same microphone worked with a Yamaha v763 that I had for a couple of months.

Just because it will plug in and take a measurement, it does not mean that the mic is the right calibration for a specific model receiver. For example, read this message from Onkyo:

http://www.uk.onkyo.com/en/articles/service-notice-audyssey-microphones-29892.html

Unless you are absolutely 100% positive that is the exact same mic for his model, I would just recommend that the OP verify that. Otherwise, the calibration could skewed.

Maybe their current models, but not previous models. I bought a Denon aVR 2807 recently and it uses a small circular mic SM205 while the 989, 591 and 1613 use the DM-A409 or ACM1H which JD said are the same.
Quote:
If you have an older Denon AVR, the XX12 model mic (DM-A409) is the same mic that is used on all XX09/X89 through XX12 Denon models.

XX13 models (1613 and higher): ship with the ACM1HB mic which is interchangeable with the DM-A409 (Denon) and ACM1H (Onkyo/Marantz) mics, a new paint job being the only difference.

The SM205 is for the Denon xx06 and xx07 models.

The A405 is for the Denon xx08 models.

The A409 is for xx09, xx10, xx11 and xx12 models.

The ACM1HB is for the xx13 models and appears to be the same as the A409. There is also a Marantz ACM1H that is silver/gray in color.
