Hi guys I looking to make a 2.0 living room setup. I just got my tv yesterday UN65f8000 Samsung. So I need some help selecting towers. I actually want to the speakers to also look as good as they sound. I want them to have some wow factor lol. My budget is about 4-5k for the pair. I already have a HT with Paradigms studio 100 v5, cc690 and adp 590's. I love the studio's but would like the try something different upstairs. And would also prefer not to run a sub. There aren't many high end stores around so I base most of my decisions on AVS expert advice smile.gif
thanks guys

Lebreeze,

There is plenty of eye candy on Audiogon. You could probably use it to narrow your search, then ask the AVS members about the lookers. I saw a pair of KEF XQ40 and some Vandersteen 3As for that classic look on there.

No receiver or amp yet. I was waiting to see how much I spent on speakers. Always like the b&ws with the tweeter on top. I thought when I checked them out before they were way out of my price range. I must have been looking at the diamond range. What kind of discount can I expect on them 20 or 30% reasonable? The Martin logan electrostatic were on my radar. But I think I like these better.

Man there's so many choices out there, I think if you want awesome quality and performance then the bowers and Wilkins will def will one of your top picks, but there are other high end names for towers. Really getting a good set of towers is your first battle. Once in your hands you'll have to find the rite receiver/power source to enable them to shine, plus calibration, settings, placement, ect. You should do fine I mean your budget is plenty to get a pair of awesome towers.

I heard the r700 and thought they rocked. The uniQ is awesome and puts out a giant sweet spot that hardly changed as I walked around the room. Give'em a listen for sure.

Take a look at the Salk Veracity ST http://salksound.com/veracity%20st%20-%20home.htm
The Salk Veracity HT2-TL http://salksound.com/ht2-tl%20-%20home.htm
The Salk Supercharged SongTower http://salksound.com/songtower%20supercharged%20home.htm

or the Philharmonic towers http://philharmonicaudio.com/folio-me/html/Phil%20Pages/floosrstanding.html

All of the above can be ordered in a wide variety of veneers and finishes and most will be well under your budget. Look at the gallery of images; I'm sure you will find some that will work in your living room and give you the WOW you want. Warning: some of these need a lot of room and may not fit in your living room.

Yes I agree. But I already have a 5.1 dedicated HT. This setup is going to be in my living room. And used for listen to music and just watching T.V. So I thought I could get away with a 2.0 setup.

If your looking for a 2.0 system I wouldnt look any further than the Philharmonic 3's or some of Salk's speakers. The Philharmonics are a true full range speaker with a very high resolution top-end. The Salks are very similar.

Only looked at them quick. But honestly they looked a bit homemade to me. They may be great but I like bigger companys. That have been doing it for a long time.

I think I have narrowed it down to 2 contenders. The cm 10 vs gx300. Hopefully I can see and listen to them before I make my final decision.

Awesome, I can't wait to see how it turns out! Not to persuade you but I'm really impressed with the quality and performance that bowers and Wilkins display on their high end lines. To top it off the finish and detail they put in these towers is beautiful, it's the best of both worlds. There's always something better out there it seems, but I just can't see someone disappointed with these, especially with your setup you want they should def make you happy smile.gif either way it'll be cool to see how those gx300s do too.

After auditioning the cm 10 today. I left a little bit underwhelmed with them. Not because of the sound but because I wasn't wowed with the looks. I found them small compared to my studio 100's. I was shocked when I read how heavy they were beause they seemed very light. I came across stalk speakers again tonight. And I actually think its what I'm looking for. There factory ends up being only about 45 min from me. And his customization seems impeccable. Hopefully I can make it there this week. Now i just have to picks a finishes biggrin.gif

Salks have a great rep. Don't count out the gx300 w/o a listen if possible. They're also smaller than your 100s but have a big sound and the highs I felt were missing in the CMs as well as a much nicer cabinet.

I would love to listen and see the gx300. Unfortunately I don't think anybody has them around me. I going to call a place tomorrow around me that says they are a dealer but I pretty sure they won't have them. I think I now like the whole idea about picking out my veneer with the salks.

Unfortunately I know the feeling. I was looking to hear the rx8. Most if the dealers sold MA but didn't have showrooms. The few that did mostly had the gold or platinum series. Finally found rx6s to audition after calling about a dozen dealers. Best of luck with it. Even if you can't hear the MAs, no doubt you'll enjoy the Salks!
